Working on Hero's Mod

OK, so I've started working on a mod for the heroes to either fix perceived broken things and/or fix oddities.  I've made it so all the heroes can use a weapon.

What I've done so far:

  • The Avenger can use a sword.  Will come equipped with a sword.
  • The Boglord can use an Axe.  Will come equipped with an axe.
  • Ifris can use a sword.  Will come equipped with a sword.

What I'm looking at:

  • Replacing Giott the Marksman's Shockwave ability with something else.  Doesn't seem to fit with his whole theme.  Maybe even just scratch that ability and not replace it.  Not sure.

Other miscellaneous things:

  • Korthox the Ice Lord probably needs a buff for damage.  He does 3 physical and 2 cold.  That's compared to people like Slough the Boglord who does 12 physical and 5 poison damage.  Korthox for what he's supposed to be is kind of weak.  He also has the lowest HP of any melee hero.
  • Tandis probably needs his base accuracy buffed.  Most melee heroes are in the 80's and 90's, his is in the 70's.
  • Only three heroes have a bonus to crit: Tandis, Drogon and Varda and it increases with each level.
  • Ifris the Engulfed has the most hit points, even more than the giant.

I'm willing to listen to other idea's to buff/nerf heroes.

A few things to note: it's probably less that Korthox needs a buff and more that Slough and co. would need a nerf. Remember that you're comparing a champ designed to use a weapon to a champ designed not to: Slough's damage is high to compensate for that. If you compare Korthox's damage to, say, Tandis, the comparison is much more sane (2 phys, 3 cold vs. 8 phys.) Korthox also has really high base defense, more than double most other champions. If Slough can suddenly use axes, his base damage probably needs a nerf (same with Ifris and the Avenger).

Ifris having the most health makes sense in the context that he's a cast-from-health melee hero.

That might be true if you got them at the same point, but that's not the case.  You typically don't get them mid/late game, depending on how far you start away from them.  By that point, someone like Tandis has several levels, which makes his damage/HP/Defense pre-equipment on par with them, if not way past them.  Furthermore, you almost always by that point have weaponry that's not the starting equipment (hunter's bow or sword), which pushes you past them.  This is compounded if you have the ability to enchant equipment or have gotten any number of other buffs (extra HP from dwarven brew or the like).

So, by the time you get those other heroes, your other heroes will likely have at least five levels, putting their natural damage on par with someone like Slough, but also have numerous other buffs from your skill tree.

I don't see what level has to do with anything. Yeah, your original champion is going to have a level advantage, but I don't see why this is a problem for remnant champs specifically when it also affects champs gained from statues and the skill tree. In fact, remnant heroes suffer less, since they join at level 3.

And if you want to do some quick and dirty math to better illustrate the point, assuming a level 5 Tandis vs. a fresh level 3 Slough: all heroes get an attack bonus equal to their level. A level 5 Tandis would have a total of 13 phys damage before gear, and a level 3 Slough would have 12 phys and 8 poison. And this is Slough, mind...a champion whose skill trees are entirely based around summoning and support.

There is a difference between a level 5 tandis and a level 3 Slough.

Tandis would have a base damage of 13, +5% crit, and 23 hp.

Slough would have a base damage of 12, poison 8 (base 5 +3 for level), 27 hit points, and no crit damage.

So, Slough is going to be tougher well before equipment, doing more damage overall because many units don't have a resist too, and have more HP.  Not all heroes get a bonus to their base damage, Slough does not.  They usually get some sort of damage increase (Ifris doesn't get more base damage, but does more fire damage for example).  So, slough has a base 20 damage and more hit points at 2 levels below Tandis, who also has a lower overall accuracy.

Korthox has to be the worst hero though for damage.  He get's a base 3 and 2 cold to start and only levels +1 cold per level.  He has low HP, decent defense (one of the highest, but not the highest), and that's about it.
