I believe it is streaming some texture data from the harddrive- I've noticed a bit of an increase in speed since I moved my steam install of ashes to my SSD. As always, take with a grain or a shaker of salt, and this game still is in very early beta/late alpha, so expect optimizations to be happening regularly.
Also, as a side note, -please- get an SSD. Those system specs are great, but you're really hurting yourself without moving your windows install to a solid state drive- they're not very expensive anymore, a 240 gig only runs you about $140, you can get windows and your few core games on there, and it makes an incredible difference.
There is no texture streaming presently. It could be the auto-save feature or logs being dumped periodically. Otherwise, I suspect the only things that get streamed are music and maybe some audio sounds.
Hmm ok, but that still means that there are SOME HD activity while you're in-game, at least that's something.
In this game I get most of the stutter / freezes when I zoom in or out as well as when scrolling around. This does not always happen, It stops after awhile and then comes back after awhile. This is in both DX12 and DX11 mode. However the reason I'm thinking this is probably due to my computer instead of the game is that a couple of other games display similar behaviour. Not all (which makes it more annoying) but some.
Killing floor 2, Borderlands the pre-sequel for example (those are UE games though and I know those do texture streaming, however I've tried disabling streaming, but that didn't help, might have reduced the occurrence some but it's hard to say). On the other hand Dragon Age : Inquisition, Battlefield 4, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, etc works flawlessly so it's quite annoying to troubleshoot.
I'm gonna try replacing my harddrive and see if that helps.
Thanks for the answer!
