How are you finding Windows 10?

I have to say - much to my surprise - that I am really enjoying it.

Clean install onto a new SSD and it's a flying machine. Faster than 8.1 in everyway........boot, loading programs, responsiveness etc.

Like everyone else here..........I'm missing some of my Stardock apps but they'll come along in the not too distant future.

Some of my 'Likes'..........Mail app and Groove Music app, Edge is going to be a great browser as soon as it gets add-in support - pop-up blockers etc. Not very user friendly at the moment.

'Dislikes'.........Those damn icons but hopefully Iconpackager will cure that when its updated. Logon screen is not changeable without a registry hack so have to wait patiently for Decor8 update.

This website is great for tweaks and advice.................http://www.howtogeek.com/ ...........not just on 10 but lots of other stuff too.

Looks like many of you have held off on 10............but those of you that have taken the plunge.........what do you like and dislike?

I have 10 Pro on 3 machines so far [2 lappies and a tower] and results are inconsistent...possibly because 1 was from 8.1....one was from a preview release of 10 and one was from 7 Ult.

Example...the Demo of FSX runs 'ok' on one but on another closes with the message FSX wants a 'bigger' res....of 1024 - when the machine is actually 1360.  Go figure.

It looked like 99% utter shite only a bit less bad than 8/8.1 but with some SD addons it's improving...;)

i think it is close to unmatured swiss cheese, that likes to talk, currently, but that might change

I'm finding it pretty good so far. The upgrade went smoothly, without losing anything. Best part for me is faster movement of files between drives. I also like the flat, minimalistic look. Auto colour change on the taskbar is also a plus. I've had no real hassles yet, except some old games won't play. A question on this - I can't seem to find the 'how to get older programs to work on this OS' in settings, which was easily found & useful on Win 7. Any advice would be welcome.

I'm not....finding it, that is.  The icon sits there in my sys tray doing absolutely nothing.  3 weeks down the track [since release] and it's still 'evaluating' my machine.

Oh well, I wouldn't be installing 10 on this [my HP tablet/laptop] anyhow.  In fact, I'm most reticent about installing it on anything.... though not just because of the fugly UI and icons.  Stardock apps could fix those.  No, my main objection is the open backdoor and phone-home crap MS installed.... its intention to target me with ads based on my personal files and perceived preferences.  There's no way on Earth I'm inviting that crap into my life.

Yeah, I know, all you Win 10 users are going to tell me that you haven't gotten any MS and/or Partners spam..... YET!!   Apparently the necessary infrastructure for that hasn't been put in place/enabled.... YET!!!    But it WILL be!   That's why Win 10 [the service] is free.  Free my arse!   It has more caveats than the Old Bailey Law Library.

And before anyone repeats: "but if you have nothing to hide".... I have the same [or similar] to every other bloke, but that don't mean I'm going to walk around naked.  No, there are some things we want to keep to ourselves/private.... which in my case [nakedness] is probably just as well.  The local hospital is not equipped to handle that many coronaries.... or hysterics.

So far it's flawless on every machine I've tested or installed it on.  Even my Windows 7 machines have all been upgraded now.

And yes, it's faaaaaaaaast!

Better results from win 8.1 to 10 than win 7 to 10. I could be just that my former 8.1 lappy has better specs than the former 7. It takes simply forever to get to the lock screen from boot up......

With all the hype and other nonsense I'm seeing on the web Win 10 has a ways to go yet. Forced updates, reboot loops that were supposedly fixed but reappeared in the third cumulative update, every app phoning home with all your data and preferences where it should leave them alone, etc. No...I'm sticking with my 8.1 (which by the way is only faster than 7 on boot up, everything else is the same). Win 10 will wait until I decide to go for it. And certainly not on this laptop. It will be on a completely new and different one, a Toshiba because I find that one better than most.
