Ship surrender

When I go to atack a ship(s) and my fire power and hit points out number them 3:1 It would be nice if they would sometimes surrender.

this slight chance could be modified by there type of ideology.

and with the surrender could be the added chance of sabotage in the fleet.

So, I would execute all prisoners just in case they were thinking of sabotage.  Is that the intention?

Not sure the direction you intended with your response Erischild, so I apologize in advance if I'm taken the wrong way. I think that would be a great feature. Moreover, at the very least, I'd really like to see the ability to capture ships like in MOO2 brought in. I think it adds another dimension of fun and immersion to "refit", (read: change color, lol,) of an enemy ship and add it to your fleet.

the advantage could be betting information or tech

No apologies needed.

My issue is that if there were any chance of delayed sabotage from a captured ship, the only reasonable response (obviously my opinion) is to never ever capture any ships, just destroy them immediately.  I don't see a lot of play value there.

I envision having self destruct capabilities on all my ships, military and civilian, as part of the present implementation.  No captured ships for you!  And that fits my battle philosophy.  My crew is not allowed to surrender as a matter of policy.  As a player, I would have to insist on having that option.  I would hate having my ships used against me, and not in a good way.   I am not sure what good it is doing anyone to have a capture mechanism if I can envision a game where no one allows themselves to be captured.

I agree completely erischild. If you played MOO2, the chances of successfully capturing a ship were slim, (near impossible when attempting to capture an Antaran vessel.) They all had a percentage chance of self-destructing. I'd like this feature with a very slim chance of success. It would make the successful attempt that much sweeter.

Perhaps surrender chances could be impacted by ideology. Benevolent civilizations could have a lower rate of surrender but prisoners of war under benevolent civilizations would have a higher rate of survivorship to the end of hostilities (when crewmen would be exchanged). Malevolent civilizations on the other hand would see higher rates of surrender but prisoners of war held by them would see lower survivorship. This could be tied into an exp. system and planetary invasion as well.
