Some months ago we had a discussion on "strategic zoom".  Our position remains that we don't want to zoom out to a sea of icons.  We want to find some other way to do this because we may want to allow the player to eventually zoom out even further than we have here and will need a more abstract way of displaying the world.  The map you see here is our tiny map. So turning everything into icons just doesn't work.  There are units in that screenshot that you can't even really see (the drones).

So understanding that we don't want to turn individual units into icons we'd like to hear your views on how we might display relative army strength and other important strategic strength.

I would love to see this, but also make each bubble have an icon you can click on to make it a picture-in-picture at the appropriate zoom level to be able to select from forces within the group. So clicking any of the numbered bubbles changes the number/other stats into the actual zoomed in view of the group so i can for example double click on a AA unit in that bubble to select all similar units in the group, then have them select target something. 

Also have an button when in this view to change the PIP to 'full screen' so you can micro the group of units at an appropriate zoom level quickly, then a 'return view' button to go back out (in addition to being able to mouse-wheel out) that returns those units to the bubble and displays the rest of the map.

Call me old school but I really like the unit icons.  It provides excellent awareness and ability to manage
