Desktop Icons Missing

I was using Start8 with Windows 8.1 Pro and did an online upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I didn't uninstall Start8 before the upgrade. After the upgrade I noticed Start8 kind of worked so I uninstalled it and installed the latest build of Start10. Now when I switch to the desktop the icons briefly appear then disappear. I also am using Fences. Is there a fix in the works for this issue?

Thanks,

Jonny

I doubt this is anything to do with Start10 or 8.

It could be Fences as that does interact with the desktop and icon painting.

Your best bet is to contact [email protected] so they can help you.

Portableapps platform seems to do this to me, could be another program you're running.

I found the resolution:

Delete the IconCache.db file in the \Users\{user-name}\AppData\Local" folder and reboot the machine. It's a hidden file so you'll have to set your folder options to "Show hidden files and folders". Once you restart your desktop icons should appear.

rebelhorndawg - i'm unable to locate the IconCache.db (hidden) file in the user folder you have designated; other suggestions?

thanks.

Did you remember to show hidden files in control panel/folder options? Make sure you've done that then go up to your user root folder and search for the file. Perhaps it's somewhere else but it should be in the folder I said it is in.
