Paid /Free DLC

Free DLC (Updates)

  • Planetary invasion - a bit more strategic depth and much more fluff but nothing major game changing features like new engine, tactical fights and so (has been discussed in multiple instances)
  • Governors for both planets and star-bases. A must-have for very large universes which is basically the selling-point of the game
  • Advanced fleet management options and perks - A streamlining and emphasis on fleets like the Total War series has done with armies would make large fleets with perk, crews and commandants with experience much more important. Management options could
    • include the fleets functioning as way-point themselves for shipyards
    • Return to nearest base or space station for repairs
    • Management of perks and crews/commandants with experience
    • Information on the history of the fleet
    • Option to have a designated flagship and icon for the fleet on the management screen
  • Spy system as a significant function. Since GC2 already included this it should be in for GC3 to be an evolutionary step including features:
    • Steal tech, money or reduce production, influence or morale
    • Secure votes for UN
    • Spread tension between two civ
    • Show planetary infos, ship locations and their targets
    • Counter-espionage system
    • Buildings to enhance offensive and defensive espionage
    • CIV perks providing bonus on this aspect
    • Diplomacy effect if spy cough

Paid DLC

  • Additional CIVs with unique tech tree, buildings and ship parts
  • Custom maps
  • Single player story extensions

These would make sense in my opinion as they would not affect the AI significantly but would till offer value for those who are willing to pay more

GC2 did not include this. It was added with the first expansion Dark Avatar. Something a lot of people don't know/forget.

I believe Lord_of_Void's point may have been.  If the Spy system was in the finished product for GC2, then it should be in the released product for GC3.  I think a lot of the point's that are raised here show that the game has actually taken a step backwards.

Didn't know that - didn't play the base version. Still I think this might be considered for three reasons:

  1. If compared with GC2 it will be the Ultimate Edition of GC2 due to the above mentioned reason (if it is a fair comparison is a different question - now that I think of it this might have been the exact reason I was so let down by CIV Beyond Earth after Brave New World :))
  2. The AI needs to incorporate this strategy - if the feature is optional the AI will either not use its full potential without or will not utilize this feature enough to pose a challenge reducing the value of the feature making it a contraproductive player handicap
  3. Ideally this is a core gameplay element hence my surprise when it was not present - It is difficult to imagine this as an optional addon unless it is dumbed down.

Why do I think it should be a core element? Since the game prides itself in the feature of the non-battely way being a valid gameplay alternative. Diplomacy does support this statement to an extent but there are too many elements that drive toward armed conflict and too few options to develop and hinder AI withouth it. Even if further developed diplomacy can not provide sufficient ways to interfere with other civs in a granular and meaningfull way. Spying is the logical solution to wage a commercial and cultural war withouth actual agression.

If a player is to win a cultural/economic/diplomacy victory the process needs to have meat on it

Now that I think on GC2 there were 2 races: Darth and Archean I think which would come handy for the size of maps we are dealing here. I remember the later as having the most interesting tech tree as they needed to construct buildings for ship speed instead of putting drives on them - I found that a brilliant idea to mix it up and it even gave the race some unique buildings.

Addition of such unique races with unique tech-trees and buildings to use also for custom races is a good value withouth meddling with the core game significantly

GC3 boosts some great animations as well for the default races - expanding the roster of leaders and active background (e.g.: Planet side palace, Starbase command HQ with planet background) in similar quality would also provide some nice DLC material

Enemy civs will be a big question for this game as is, as there are far too few colours, icons and race pictures available to play with. A lot of the colours and schemas do not give with the backgrounds so that ships often end up invisible on the strategic map.

The last 2 options in the Free DLC are going to be part of a paid expansion.  This has been the plan for a long time and the devs have been very clear and open about it.

Well if so, at least it is sure we get both systems. Just hope the spying will have enough meat on it and the AI will use it
