can't get a Folder Tab to work

Folder Tabs are the reason that I purchased ObjectDock, and I can't get them to work.

Here's what I'm doing:

  • Right-click edge of tabbed dock.
  • Select Add >> Tab >> Folder Tab

At this point, I'm expecting to select a Windows (7) folder that will then populate the ObjectDock Folder Tab with the files & sub-folders in that folder.

But, a Windows file explorer panel opens up, saying:  choose a folder.

After that, it doesn't do anything.  I can't select a folder and have the Folder Tab work, it just sits there.  It doesn't create a new tab.

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, or tell me that this doesn't work.

Thank you

That doesn't work for me either. What you can do is to open ObjectDock configuration, choose the dock you are working on, click on "On my dock", then "Add a new tab", name it, and then drag the folder you want on to the dock. I hope this helps.

Thanks, willistuder —

The folder I want to use is called [WebLinks].  If I'm following you correctly, I end up with a folder shortcut on the dock called [WebLinks].  Clicking on this folder icon opens up my folder [WebLinks] in Windows explorer.

What I was hoping for, was for the contents of [WebLinks] to populate the tab in ObjectDock.  In other words, not using Windows, but using ObjectDock to navigate the contents of the folder [WebLinks].  Do you think you have this working?

I believe ObjectDock is supposed to do this, but it's not working.  Actually, I got it to work one time, but now I can't get it to work again.

It looks like I can't help you, then. My method just uses Explorer. Another possibility used to be a flyout menu. At one time, the contents of a folder would appear as icons above the dock, and, if I remember correctly, if you hovered over a subfolder, another line of icons would appear above that. Maybe you could get that working. ("On my dock", "Add a new docklet", "Flyout menu".) Sorry about that.

Add the folder tab, then select a file within the folder you want as a tab. Then click open and it will be the folder you chose on the tab.

It might be a good idea to contact [email protected]. They'll either know how, or be able to confirm that it no longer works. The flyout menus were great, by the way. I haven't used them in a long time, but they were handy.   This page has a number of options:  https://www.wincustomize.com/help  Click on the Support button to find them. If you email them, wait until you get an automated reply, or else your request goes to the back of the line.

I just tried this, and can confirm it worked fine on Win7/64. Well played. :congrat:

I tried it as well, and it worked. However, when I tried to remove the tab. I ran into some problems. The folder I chose was (My) Documents, which is quite large. At first it didn't disappear. I tried a few things, ObjectDock crashed, produced an error report which didn't successfully upload. Then I re-opened ObjectDock; the Documents tab was still there. I tried to delete it again; a "ghost" list of the contents remained on screen, and I had to drag the dock away from the area in order to use the shortcuts. This time, though, the Documents tab disappeared. I then shut ObjectDock down, reopened it, and everything is fine now. I'm just guessing, but due to the size of the folder, perhaps it would have disappeared after giving it a bit of time. (I have not tried another folder tab since).

The_Gear is correct!  Thank you & thanks to everyone else.

Most folks reading this will see that this function is not very intuitive.

Stardock should revise the instructions for installing a Folder Tab to explain this non-standard behavior.
