Map Editor

New idea to further expand upon the best tool ever

I love the map editor!

I have one request for a future idea to make it even better.  I love that you can modify the layout of the galaxy and even add star systems as needed ect.  My request is that since the planets are random in resources ect, I would love a feature that allowed us to go to planet level and edit the hexagons and add bonuses as necessary.

Keep up the great work Stardock!

I agree.

Also Add the ability to place single item nebula's and such.

When trying to make a map look a specific way placing nebula's makes them a random size and shape and it is impossible to make then fit to a specific shape the designer has in mind. Perhaps just hold down control or alt to make a nebula place one.

Also add the ability to place ships directly on a map, not just anomalies that reward a specific ship. Also detailed info for what the anomalies do as well. Example "one wormhole to many" what does this give? a survey ship, Wow it would have been nice to know that ahead of time.

Or at least add a check box or something so that it can be set to not be protected by bandits.

And add more detailed tool-tips for certain selections. Planetary traits comes to mind. I had to make a fake map with multiple planets and all of them with a different trait so that I could start a game and write down the observed bonus from a trait. For example: Trait = Ghost : +50% research <--- it should tell us this.

Also with the planet customization option the list should be split so that natural resources (crystals and such) are separate than the buildings (factory, xeno farm) the player can build.

Map maker maps are unusable in sandbox games, I've found.

You can't assign specific starting locations. It's just "random human payer" or "random AI." That's.... crappy.

It lets you create the Drengia system, but not the Drengin.

Yes; basically order of planets created in a custom map and order players are listed in the player setup.

I wish there was a search function in the editor so when you wish to double check if you've assigned ownership of a system you can either enter the name or coordinates and it would zoom there right away.  On insane size maps especially...
