Can't find Win 10 update icon in tray

Hi!

I'm running 8.1, and I have the proper Microsoft KB updates installed.  Theoretically, I'm to see an icon in my tray that tells how I'm entitled to the Win 10 free update.  Unfortunately, I don't have the icon, despite meeting other prerequisites.  Per the Microsoft Win 10 update page, the problem could be because I'm blocking the update functionality.

I wonder if it's because of Start8 being installed....

I can readily find the icon in the tray of my wife's 8.1 computer, but she's not running Start8.

Thanks!

Mark

I understand some computers are currently not displaying this, but it should not be anything to do with Start8 and if it were it would be a Microsoft bug.

Most likely your computer is failing some other requirement.  I know some tablets will not show it right now due to space limitations.

I had a similar issue.  I did some troubleshooting.  I had to start with running Windows Updates for Windows 8.1.  I then got an error getting some of the updates.   After Googling that error and following remedies posted on micorsoft.com I had the icon back after about an hour of work.  In any case, I don't think the issue is related to Start8 being installed.  This issue appears to be a small epidemic out there.
