Complete Set of Ship Designs?

Are there ship designs I can download? Maybe even a complete set that covers all the tech?

I'm tired of the shipyard. When I want to upgrade a ship, unless I'm missing something, and I don't say I'm not, instead of simply removing the old and putting on the new you gotta start the design from scratch. If I merely want to upgrade the engines on, say, my colony ship, I have to redesign a whole new colony ship. It's tedious and I'm tired of it.

You can say that once you've designed something it stays around for the next game. Well and good, so far as it goes. But everybody has had to do it every single time.

Is there a set of ships I can put in that would cover new research without the hassle of designing a hundred ships myself from scratch? I couldn't care less what they look like, I just want to be able to build a new ship with the tech I just researched without taking half an hour to design a brand new one that, oh yeah, looks exactly like the old one but with that one new thing. I know that means a lot of ships, but this game has been around a while and every single person has to design a new ship for new tech. Surely someone has put them all together?

  1. Go into the options menu.
  2. Click the Interface tab. You should see a Ship Designer heading.
  3. Uncheck the box which says 'Remove functional components when upgrading ship design.'
  4. Upgrades should no longer strip a ship of functional parts. :)

For new designs, you can also save a ship design as a template, which means that you don't have to fiddle with cosmetic parts at all in later games, even if you want to add a completely different bunch of functional components.

The above may be different depending on whether you're playing GC2: Dread Lords or one of the later expansions (Ultimate Edition by default starts Twilight of the Arnor).

Hot dog! I'll take it. Thanks.

Playing (theoretically) Ultimate, altho it comes up Dread Lords in places, and Twilight in others. DL in a splash screen, and TA in task manager.

This seems to work. Ah, frustration drop.
