Turn off Surrenders

The ability to turn off surrenders, forcing the AI fight to the very end.  Self explanatory really.

I Don,t have a real problem with this but would like to hear your reason.  When the AI is down to mop up level, i look forward to a surrender to me ^_^ ) just to avoid 20-30 turns of time consuming pointless (prob too strong a word) clean up.

At some point, I also would like to have the option to allow or disallow surrenders. Because the Krynn didn't surrender to me, but to the Drengin. As I really wanted to get rid of the tons of useless starbases the Krynn had built in my own territory, I had to declare war to the Drengin next. It can have a tactical advantage to have surrenders (no "cleanup time"), but it can also have a disadvantage.

You had a choice, you could have traded for the starbases. :moo:

Would like to see this option too, like in GCII. Also miss the "disallow tech-brokering" extra settings from there.

I would rather they become client states (think Vichy France in WWII)

Everything in my area of influence is mine and the rest becomes a vassal/client state. Perhaps I can demand some key planets on top.

Anything in someone else's area of influence becomes theirs. Examples are the collapse of European colonies and Russia snagging east Poland when Germany attacked Poland.

Yes I liked ticking the no surrenders box It made them actually fight me rather than make their fleets go pirate.

my main reason for having no surrenders is why would a good race surrender to someone who would eat them or drengin. Kill them is korath. They would surrender even if you gave them a fresh military. Ialso want that option. Please have an option to turn surrenders off.

I think part of the problem is the vagueness of the surrender mechanic. This is the only can I can recall that has this mechanic. The idea isn't bad, the implementation seems to be the issue.

When I say it isn't bad. Let's assume the UK surrendered to Germany in the Battle of Britain.

Wouldn't the UK "gift" Canada, Australia and India some of their assets, colonies and outposts?

However, the current mechanic seems too random.

Every race in the game would surrender before Britain did in WWII, a credit to Britain. The surrendering should be a race trait, where some simply won't surrender and some will surrender pretty easily and why not with as many other traits as races have. The whole surrender to a stronger force is silly, it isn't like they are joining a confederation they are being assimilated or subjugated or whatever without the dominate race taking any hits for now ruling those assets and locations.

Isn't surrender usually the last option anyway? Shouldn't you have to be seriously defeated in order to surrender? Maybe if they made a check where you'd have to have already lost 50% of your assets in the last 20 turns before you can surrender it feel less cheap that it currently does.
