free shareware Hebrew text

writer

My version of MS Word / (on win 7x64bit PC) does not seem to permit Hebrew.  I need to use some Hebrew in my English docs, or, at least be able to type Hebrew.  Anyone with helpful suggestions for free ware or share ware apps that do this.  i don't need anything fancy... just basic text - vowel points optional.   Thanks you all.

edit:  i have win 7 home professional... not sure why I typed win 6... silly me.

There's your problem. Either step back down to Vista or step up to Windows 7.  Windows 6 was a major fail. You'll have nothing but trouble running an OS that doesn't exist. :w00t:

You might need to install the Hebrew language pack available in Windows Update ElanaAhova, if you have it hidden, then just go to Restore Hidden Updates in Windows Update, restore it, then install it.

MS site says the multilingual interface is available only for ultimate and enterprise editions... I will keep looking.... :)

http://www.froggie.sk/en/7lp64sp1.html go here, DL the language pack you need. Read this:  https://www.raymond.cc/blog/download-and-install-windows-vista-mui-language-packs-on-vista-home-basic-home-premium-and-business/

You are welcome.

Wiz...what you typed is employing the 'you' (male) and Elana is female, so it would be את.

Also, Google tends to screw up...what it gave you back is "You (male) are invited".

What you should have received is: בבקשה.

Elana: If you are using single words or sentences, you can use online Hebrew keyboards such as the one here: http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/hebrew.htm

try...

control panel -> region and languages -> keyboard languages -> change keyboards -> add -> hebrew

see how that goes... the language packs.. i think it just makes the interface/menus display in various languages.

Actually, what Elana is looking for is the ability to switch back and forth rapidly between English and Hebrew.

What you're looking for is a Hebrew Keyboard like the ones in Israel which actually switch the OS and typing direction back and forth between Hebrew and English and have both languages on the keyboard.

The ones from Israel actually can do the switch over from a button on the keyboard.

Yes, Doc!  Clarification: does the amazon keyboard include (bundled with, etc.) the actual software to support Hebrew text?  If not, how do I get the software into my PC that will permit me to switch back and forth?  Toda raba mi amigo! :)

Elana, I really don't know. I think you'd have to inquire with the company producing the keyboard.

The company which appears most reliable is the last one I listed, supplied through Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/English-Bilingual-Language-Keyboard-Windows/dp/B006QQKII6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1433497549&sr=1-1&keywords=hebrew+english+keyboard

Here's the link to the company itself (on Amazon):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/details/ref=aag_m_as?ie=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=1&isCBA=&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&seller=A1YG1VZVF48PM9

Their website: http://aramedia.com/

Their telephone which you might wish to use to speak with someone who might actually be able to answer your questions: 781-849-0021.

Thanks Doc,  I saw the inc website before.  The phone number is out of service.... and all the info via searches return the same address on Adams st, and the same phone number.   The keyboard looks like it is just a key board with Hebrew letters in the right places (like my sticky keys do on my current keyboard).   I will do some more sleuthing.... I wish Microsoft site was not do techno-garbeled.. LOL.

um... you can switch back and forth instantly by flipping ime (input method editor) within windows for free... so you have 2 ime.. english and hebrew (or more, depending on how many languages you want!) .. there's even a key shortcut for that (left alt + shift. can be changed to whatever combo you want.)

seriously... try adding hebrew ime like i said above and see if it works ok for you.. i'm looking at the preview and it's got hebrew characters corresponding to whatever keys.. (i ain't adding ime to my windows... i don't type chinese but if i seriously need to write some.. i'll use the ancient bamboo pad and write it.... or google translate.. yeah.. it sometimes works.)

there's no real need to pay for ime nowadays. everything can be done in unicode. (well... ok.. some programs don't support unicode file names.. but you don't need that for plain old typing.)

Elana, here's a free Google Hebrew IME: http://www.google.co.in/inputtools/windows/index.html

After installation...well you get a table like the one above not as nice though.

Using either is a P.I.A.

I'll ask a friend in Israel about the keyboard/typing direction thing and how they switch from Hebrew to English and vice versa. I'll pm you the results.

***You can also avoid the pain altogether by going here: http://gate2home.com/Hebrew-Keyboard

and type what you need using your own, current keyboard then using copy-paste.***
