Can you increase the number of race trait points above 5?

Evening all,

I've had a flick through some of the previous threads and can't see a definitive answer on this, so apologies if it's already been discussed.

So can one do a mod that increases the number of available race trait points?

Reason I ask is because I was planning out some of the civilizations Im going to design (got 20 so far), but I somehow got it into my head that there were 8 points to play with - however I now discover, much to my consternation, that there are only 5!  So I'm hoping that this can be modded or I'm going to have to start from scratch - rather annoying to say the least.

Dont need to know how to do it yet, but a definitive answer would be a big help.

Cheers me dears!

Ok so i cant say for sure 100% that you can do it or not

but it should be fairly easy and i can look into it tonight if i have some time

that being said you should be able to create your race with the 5 pts save it and then add the extra three traits by editing your races file

I looked around a little (this sounded like something we could find in GalCiv3GlobalDefs.xml) but found nothing.
EDIT: joeball123 found it, there indeed is a tag for that!

However, you can mod your custom civs in by making them externally, in the XMLs. This gives far more flexibility, as you're not constrained to the rules in the Custom Faction UI.

Check out this post by Derek, who works at Stardock. He goes over the process of modding a custom civ through the XMLs.

In GalCiv3GlobalDefs.XML, look for <CustomFactionTraitPoints>5</CustomFactionTraitPoints>, which I expect governs the number of points you have for selecting things like Productive or Fertile, and the <CustomFactionAbilityPoints>2</CustomFactionAbilityPoints>, which should govern the number of points you have to spend on things like Zealous or Starfarers. While I have not tried modifying these values myself, I expect that if you change the values you will change the number of points you have to spend on each type of thing when creating a custom faction.

Ah ok, so I cannot mod the UI to allow me to do this but I can manually change it in the XML - that'll do me fine! Thanks guys

For a noob I'm picking up the jargon quite well I think lol!

Thanks for taking a look at that for me, and I was reading Derek's post just now actually Kiloku - great minds think alike!

Even better!  I'll keep note of that and give it a whirl once I get the game.

Cheers mate!
