How are Carrier Fighters chosen?

Do when you have a carrier, how are the figthers chosen?

 

What guns, missles, defences etc do they have?

 

Are they the very latest that you have tech for? Are they the tech when the carrier was launched?

 

How does this work?

How the fighters are chosen is set in the XML, so you have no control over them and the games blueprint system handles what they come equipped with. 

They get the best tech available.  So if you unlock the next beam weapon tech the next time your carriers go into battle their fighters will be using that weapon.  It's basically a way to cheat the upgrade system and keep your fleets competitive without a penalty in turns to upgrade or cost of upgrades.  Personally, I think it's a bad system.

I built a huge custom carrier with 7 high capacity module. (Custom race with the Thalan tech tree).

When the carrier attack and deploy the fighters, they are all "Glimpse M0-xx" Even thought I have Doom Ray and Photonic torpedoes, the attack value of every small fighters is 2 beams, 6 missile, 1 kinetic.

 

Anyway to work around this bug?
