Need Server Reset

Ticket #SFQ-418-83503
Start8 started messaging me on boot that I have reached the maximum number of installations and to contact the customer support desk so something could be "reset". When I initially purchased, I read several times that Start8 could be installed on other computers. There was no mention of any cap limit. So what is going on? I have installed Start8 on two (2) computers. This problem all started when you offered the upgrade, until then everything was fine. I uninstalled my copy of Start8 and installed the upgrade and that is when the trouble started.

On May 12th I submitted a general help request via your contact page. I received a computer-generated message that I was now registered at the help desk.

On May 13th I re-submitted a ticket number and to-date have had no response. Please "reset" your server or whatever you have to do to give my legally purchased software back to me.

Well, no response. I realize this is a forum, but hopefully someone from Stardock reads this. Does anyone on the forum have any idea how to get a response?

I see you have submitted a ticket, I suspect support will be dealing with that today, but I will draw their attention to this thread as well.

Thank you for the response, The_Gear. Unfortunately, Start8 still is not working.

I booted my Windows 8.1 HDD and the usual Start8 log-in screen appeared. I entered the information and nothing happened. I rebooted the computer, and this time no log-in screen but no Start button either. It appears to be loading, I can see it in Task Manager/Processes as Start8 and Stardock Start8 Service (32 bit) .  Note I am running a 64 bit version of Windows8.1.

I then entered Explore and double-clicked on Start8.exe and also Start8_64.exe but no joy.

Please help me get this going again.

Additional:  Sorry for the additional post, I don't see an edit option.  Anyway, when I first logged in my information, Start8 messaged me that my account was activated. As posted above, I still do not get the start button.

Follow-up:  My Start8 button still does not function (see my comments above for a history). I right-clicked on the start button, entered the options menu and set the Start button icon to Start8. Now the Start8 icon is displayed instead of the Windows 8 icon, but when I click it still launches the charms screen, not the start menu like it did when running properly.

If I totally uninstall Start8 and reinstall it, will I again be shut down by your server?

Please respond, I want to get this working properly.

It sounds like you have configured Start8 to show the Windows 8 menu.

Two areas to check.  Firstly on the Style page make sure you have selected the Windows 7 style.  If this is selected you should see options for colour and theme.

Then on the control page check that the What should happen when you are on the desktop options are set to Start button shows Start8 menu.  If you have picked the options relating to docked and tablet mode then be aware many machines are not configured correctly and will return results which are counter intuitive sometimes with those settings.

"you have configured Start8 to show the Windows 8 menu"

Thank you Neil, that was it. I misinterpreted what the option said.

**One last question and I will leave you in peace: how many installs are we allowed with Start8? I thought it was unlimited, I remember something that said Start8 could be installed on additional machines. I don't want to start a flame war here, I just don't what to go through this again.

Thanks...
