Slowdowns

After 90 turn I have awful slowdown of the "calculating of turn". After finishing of all activities and pushing "turn", i must wait all calculating for 1 minute or more. Only 60 turnes in hour is too long for strategic game.

"Low preferences", reinstalling of game and other my measures didn't decide problem.

Core i5 4670, 8 Gb, NVIDIA 650Ti, Win 8.1. all updates for OS and videocard are installed.

Which core i5 xyzw ? if the first number is below 3, and second number below 5, you have a slow-ish processor...

If you are playing on immense galaxy with 70 opponents, that might be the problem too :P

Intel Core 5 4670 3.4 GHz.

I play immense galaxy only with 10 opponents. So there are no prerequisites for slowdonws.

Can yo send me. Your saved game? I'll happily check it out. Sounds like a good opportunity to see what can be optimized.

So your proc is okay

And i was joking about the 70 opponnents thing. Playing on immense with lots of planets and ships will use up a lot of resources. Check how many ships and planets there are in the game(via diplomatic screen just eye it). If there are lots of ships and planets, there will be lots of calculations unfortunately, and it will get worse as more ships are built.

Frogboy,

I've just sent to you the my saved game. I'll wait for your advice of optimization.

anninhilator,

You are right, There are a lot of ships and starbases, Buit it wasn't problem in GalCiv II.

And one more. I have such problem and in situation of playing in immense spiral galaxy and immense tight clusters.

On my machine it's about 15 seconds (running your game).

I'm investigating right now.

It is definitely really slow though even for me.  This should be very interesting to find out.

This is what's causing it:

Now..

The question is, what is different about your game? You've hit the holy grail of optimizing here.  Will be digging more.

I'm seeing the slowdown as well usually I see it though only on insane maps with large number of players after around 100 turns, It's much better than it was earlier in beta 5,  I just attributed to large galaxy/players and was dealing with it.

On a modern machine, we can do things to address this sort of slow down that we coudln't before.  The honest to goodness challenge is getting saved games.

...

and I found it.

It's the pirates.

Pirates have no range limitation.  I think I can fix.

I cant believe, that the cause of slowdown is pirate's range, if i'm right in understanding  . Thanks for efficiency. Lets wait the fix.

Testing a fix right now.  But yea, his game has more pirates than I've ever seen. They must be set to abundant or something.

I have that too, but less severe.  After a while, it went back to normal.

So test case inside the profiler of original: 58 seconds

Updated to have Pirates stick more around their bases: 25 seconds

I keep Pirates set to Rare and have 15 AI with abundant Minors on an Immense map. I am now about 190 turns into a game on version 1.0. My time between turns is about 12-13 seconds. I go out of my way to slaughter pirates since at this stage I create surveyors with a pair of Pirate killers. I notice that the more mobile objects I can reveal (via sensor ships) the greater the time on turns Once I kill them the time is shaved by a second or more.

Pirates on Rare in my game and time between turns on insane map w/ 50+ races is up to 2-5 minutes 216 turns into the game.  This is different issue from my first turn issue as the turns other than the first turn aren't maxing the CPU (or only do that for 5 seconds or less) The first 50-100 turns went by quick 10-20 seconds after I started meeting races and revealing the map the slowdown has gone way up.

I still know they will figure all problems out as Stardock is great.

Just did another set of optimizations, got the turn time down to 20 seconds. That's about as best I can do for now.

If you promise not to try this MP, I'll build you an EXE to drop in your game directory to finish your game.

Here's a link to a custom build from my machine. Note that I haven't tested this with the release build so make sure you make a backup.

MP usually means Multi-Player in gaming contexts. I assume that's what he means.

And about your file "GalCiv3-vlad". It really works!!! The duration of the first turn after loading - 19 sec, the duration of the second turn after loading - 16 sec!!! Thanks!
