[crash] graphics reset (to black screen) when entering battle viewer

This has been happening to me repeatedly today. I wasn't playing much before the last two patches so I can't say if it started before that.

  1. Click on View Battle
  2. Screen flickers/Graphics card reset
  3. Black screen for GC3, no UI, and the game is unresponsive.
  4. Task manager -> Kill

The first time it happened I got a "graphics card reset" message from Windows. Since then it hasn't displayed the message. I have no tried restarting my computer, since I don't ever restart my computer.

I thought it was tied to starting a battle with a new race, but I got it a couple times in a row in fights with the Drengin (those jerks!).

Things that might not matter but I'll mention anyways:

  1. I'm playing with a custom race.
  2. I'm have two monitors (game on one, desktop on the other), if that matters. I'm not changing focus from the game.
  3. Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6900. Drivers are up to date.

I get this problem too. Not always, but fairly often. I have to close the program and re-enter it. If I watch the same battle, it may work perfectly fine or it may go to black screen again. No pattern seems to exist.

 

I have Win 7 (all updated)

16gigs DDR3 Ram

The game is installed on one of my SSD's

I have a GTX980 (Currently I have my SLI disabled and card removed due to a conflict with another game, or I'd be running it in SLI with another 980)

 

I also am playing with a custom race. I have one monitor, and all my drivers are up to date as well.

Derek mentioned in another thread that they've narrowed the problem down and are working on a fix.  In the meantime, he suggested turning off "Trails" in the Graphics tab of the game options.  It worked for me.
