Christina Applegate Should Have to Serve

Jury Duty and the Stars

Today I was flipping through the news channels and saw a blurb about how Christina Applegate was chosen to serve on the Richard Blake trial. She hasn't convinced the judge so far that she should be released from serving as a juror but is going to site her busy film schedule as a reason to be excused. If I find out this worked for her I am going to be outraged!

I served on a murder trial in Dec 2002. There was a surgeon on the jury that tried to site his busy schedule (of saving lives that is) and the judge told him that everyone has a busy schedule. Parent's have to find care for the children they care for, heads of businesses have to delegate and risk terrible loss, etc. If a surgeon can't be excused, an actress certainly shouldn't!

I am so sick of entertainers being treated by different rules. They are simply people who are very good at what they do. I don't see them any differently than anyone else who excels at their own craft. They aren't gods. They get a lot of special treatment that comes with wealth but things like duty to their society should not be waived. They should have to pay for their freedoms in the same way the rest of us do. If Ms. Applegate showed up in court for some reason, I am sure whe would think nothing of a doctor putting his patients aside for her cause. I just find this outrageous!

How busy can she really be, anyway? If it's OK for me to miss my job, why shouldn't it be OK for her to miss hers? I'm sick of "famous" people getting different treatment. the law is the law- it shouldn't matter who you are.

Having nothing to do with her work schedule, they will dismiss her for being a public figure.

The judge didn't dismiss her for that so far and plenty of other public figures have been jurors. What does being a public figure have to do with whether or not you can be a juror?

Are you saying they should dismiss her?

Your outrage is more than justified. Mommy if anyone, might be excused since she has the most important job on earth.

I was excused from jury duty because at the time I was a nursing mother.

You certainly should have been excused for nursing. Noone can do that for you. They didn't care that I was a stay-at-home Mom and didn't have anyone to watch my kids. My husband had to take time off to watch them so I could serve. Both of us were then kept from our busy schedules.
