im looking at buying into the alpha as of now but my question is if all the time i put into it now will my items be wiped at closed beta/early access or what?
The short answer is yes, the long answer is everything but special founder-only parts that we get for free. So you will be set back, but don't start from absolutely zero and you get exclusive parts. At least that's what I've been told.
Your parts will get wiped. Absolutely. At least a few times.
It's early. We iterate. A LOT. MORE THAN A LOT. A LOT LOT. Some of the parts in the build you guys have are already gone;)
As much as we want feedback from everyone, this is definitely pre-release. If you hate redoing things, then I would recommend that you hold off.
