Pirates = Ne Plus Ultra of Micromanagement

Pirates = Ne Plus Ultra of Micromanagement

Why? Because your non-micromanaged ships will blunder into them (lost 15 turns of early game shipyard production already in one game).

Fix? Ships on pathfinding stop when they encounter a hostile ship in their sensor range.

I think the easiest solution is to do what we do in Sorcerer King: When a threat is detected, disable auto behavior.  We already do this with the Sentry command so it should be pretty easy.

I think allot of people would appreciate that behavior from ships on automation.

It would make sense and you would not feel inclined to babysit ships that travel outside your scanner range all the time.

One question... does Sentry activate if a pirate comes near... I remember that it only reacted to "enemies", but that might have changed recently though?

**EDIT**

Nevermind... I was thinking of the Guard command and not the Sentry command...

I really can't understand how one can defend that is is fun to micromanage all your ships when a single easy feature would make thing just simpler and not by any stretch easier game play wise. The only time it will make the game easier is if you actually use the "auto explore" or move colonizers in dangerous areas unattended. Something you should never do. The auto explore function is very dangerous to use as it stands when exploring manually is safe, why is that?

I believe, it is so that those with infinite time and no lives, will benefit from a feature I could train a chimp to perform in less than 2 days. Micromanagement is good... So long as there are alternate intelligent choices that can be made. When the choices are die or alert the boss: I fail to to see the purpose of micromanaging go from A to B. Why can't it be: go from A to B, but don't be retarded(?).

Redundant post to make a point: So that those with infinite time and no lives, will benefit from a feature I could train a chimp to perform in less than a day.

What is so hard to understand about this? Ships should stop when they see pirates. No turning off pirates isn't a solution. Much the same way as cutting off your leg is not a solution to a skint knee. It's a very logical feature, and its an area where micromanagement can be saved.

You should never allow tedious micromanagement to be more efficient than automation. Manually clicking a ship one tile each turn is not fun, it doesn't require thought or decision making, it is jus boring busywork.
