Galactic Civilizations III Beta 5.3 Now Available

GC3_beta

Galactic Civilizations III Beta 5.3 is live!

Pirate bases now dot the void between stars. (Or cluster up into a terrifying pirate fringe if you use weird map settings like we did in last week’s dev stream. The Drengin-pirate wars were intense.)

Performance is much improved, particularly on large maps. No more waiting for the AI to pick its nose so you can get back to conquering.

Speaking of, the AI spends way less time picking its nose and way more time doing space emperor things (aka it’s quite a bit smarter).

And of course there are a multitude of polish points, balance improvements, and fixes large and small. Read the full patch notes here: https://forums.galciv3.com/463499

We deeply appreciate everyone who takes the time to review Galactic Civilizations III, particularly on Steam, and we hope this patch makes it worthwhile for new folks to write their reviews and for others to update their existing reviews. We work hard to earn those thumbs, you know.

Thanks for your support, and happy conquering!

You sunk my Survey Ship! I noticed the anomaly guarding pirates were beefed up significantly. Or is that random?

It's not random, but they were beefed up too much. The patch notes for beta 6 say that it is fixed and that it is intended that a survey ship with full hit points should be able to beat the pirates.

I'm surprised you went ahead and released this with multiple threads saying how it introduces new bugs and makes the game worse than 5.2

I find the game barely playable as it is now and I hope you release another patch soon!

We are doing regular updates to address issues that players have been reporting.

I am now about 192 turns into a game with 15 majors and all minors.

I am getting long delays between turns.

I am occasionally crashing when I have two or more 'survey combats'. What happens is I get a 'blank' skybox. I have the courser but nothing else. I have to alt tab to kill the program as I cant 'get out' since there are no buttons to move the program forward.

OK so my gig has 16G ram, yet the game barely goes over 4G. At the same time, it heavily uses the pagefile. Can you put some more aggressive settings for memory management?

And please, oh please, give us options to sort/filter planets/ships/etc :)

This.

And cycle through shipyards (which despite the devs beliefs, you currently can't do).

Ive been asking for awhile to have the feature like in GC 2 where you can filter to see all the planets you have discovered, but it looks like they took up that last slot with something else instead.  When you play on big maps, it helps to have some way to click on the planet(from the menu) and have the ship go to that planet.  Im still hopeful this is coming, but maybe they dont plan to do it at all.
