AI Terraforms EVERYTHING?!

I thought I was doing great, huge territorial advantage, then after some auto-exploring with my recon units I realized that the 2 AI factions had 4-5 inhabited worlds in EACH SYSTEM!

Is there a proper explanation for this, or does the AI completely butcher the rules (rather then play more competently) on the more difficult levels?

I forget which one, but there is a race that can make class 4 planets out of class 0 planets.  If all those planets you see are class 4, then that is probably it.

Unfortunately no, the smallest were about level 10 average, and there were 2 races doing this.

Thanks for the response though, it just seems like at "Challenging" difficulty the AI seems to make the rules as it goes along whenever Im in a dominant position.

Overpowering models I build tend to become obsolete very quickly under circumstances where victory would otherwise be inevitable, and stuff like that.

But Ive decided to beat this level if it kills me

I'm afraid this is not true. It is not possible to colonize a PQ0 planet (no AI + player are able to do so), furthermore, all AI are coded to ignore all PQ1 planets as well (as they wouldn't have any starports without terraforming)

The only thing that can change PQ0 to something higher is a galactic event.

Gormo, it might be bad luck that you had with the map generation, and also, the AI on higher difficulty settings will develop his game pretty fast.
