Suggestions: 1)full zoom instead of minimap and 2)offline mode

Just completed the tutorial, I'm really enjoying the game and concepts being explored here.  Kudos to the dev team!

I have two suggestions to throw out as my contribution.

1) I have difficulty with map awareness in this game.  It's often quite difficult to identify which building belong to who, what each building is, and consequently, on a macro scale, what is going on.

Many have suggested a minimap, but I will suggest an alternative that I think would be much better for this style game.  I suggest enabling the player to fully zoom out of the map.  At a certain zoom depth, buildings/resources pop into color coded icons.  Consider the colored/icon view the tactical view.  That way you can very quickly see: where your/opponent builds are spatially, and what buildings have been built.

This would provide all the benefit of a minimap without having a new widget cluttering the viewport.

Below, I post some screen shots from supcom and homeworld for inspiration.

2) I recently was on a business trip and wanted to play in the airport and during my flight.  Was surprised to learn steam connectivity is required.  I think this game would be quite fun to play in many situations where one may not have internet, and would like to request single player off-line mode.

All-in-all bravo on an excellent game.  Look forward to see how this grows and develops.

Thank you,

Stéphane

I totally agree on this.

If i may suggest another solution, i would add a player by player totally zoomed out view. It would hide everyone but that player and show every building and trade route for that player.

It would be possible to swap from player to player in a single click while staying at the same zoom level, providing easy comparison.

I'm in complete agreement regarding the zoom, and with xCoffee's suggestion about being able to highlight / single-out a specific player.

As far as needing to be online to play single player, I'm pretty sure that offline single player is on their short list of "coming pretty soon" features. I know that the devs aren't intending to have strict DRM or anything.

We will support offline play when we have can get past some of the more pressing issues (like host migration).
