Diplomacy Screen mix up
I think there's been a mix up with the relations status. The "Annoyed" status is better (further to the left) than the "Cool" status. I just think it should be the other way round?

I disagree.
Are you saying cool doesn't mean they think you are cool ![]()
I think this is one of those "in the eye of the beholder" personal opinion things. I can get used to it either way and really don't care if it gets flipped end for end or not.
@Peregrine23 Wait, so if my relation with another race is "Cool" (as in not hot, not heated ) that I'm more likely to go to war with them than if it were "Annoyed"?
"Cool" can also mean "chilly" or "frosty". Google "chilly relations" and whatnot and tons of hits will show up.
Think of "cool" meaning I'm glaring at you but not willing to hit you in the face quite yet. :p
But perhaps it makes sense to me since I spend a LOT of time in geo-politcal topics outside of this board. ![]()

Yeah I can see where chilly could mean cold, frosty or uncomfortable, but I guess the word 'cool' can have different connotations depending on the context. Perhaps a different word could be used that would mean "If you continue behaving in this manner we're going to war!" or "We really don't like you so you better watch out!"
Yes, to me cool seems a step beyond annoyed, but I have no real rationale, it's just a gut feeling.
cool is fairly close to neutral in my opinion, you've done something to annoy me but im willing to overlook it because its a first time or if you stop
Cool should be on the scale between neutral and annoyed: we find you distasteful but not actually toxic.
Have you heard of the "Cold War"? That was between 2 nations whose relations were "cool". Ok very very cool. So cool, it became cold. Very cold. But yeah, that relationship that started out as "cool" nearly blew up the world. So yes I can very easily see the status of "cool" as being worse than "annoyed" ![]()
I think it is just the opposite. Think of it in the context of a personal relationship. I can and do get annoyed at people care about, typically you (and presumably them) sill want to have a open dialog & can talk about what has "annoyed" you, with a desire to resolve the underling issue. Once the relationship turns cool or cold, you really do not want to even bother talking. Your opinion of them is bad and "frozen"
with no real desire to work things out.
I think they got it right

I agree; that's the way I understood it. But on the other hand, maybe a word that is less ambiguous might be handy, like "frosty".
Or maybe change annoyed to bothered
I am frequently annoyed by my wife and children, but I am seldom cool with them.
As a country, we are often annoyed by the Brits and other NATO allies (and vice-versa). Our relations with Russia are currently beyond annoyed and have become quite cool.
Exactly
OK The Oxford English Dictionary gives me this as the definition of "Cool"
Showing no friendliness towards a person or enthusiasm for an idea or project: he gave a cool reception to the suggestion for a research centre
The relation stage after or lower than Cool is War. If someone was cool, indifferent, apathetic, unfriendly, distant, remote aloof, etc etc I don't think that the next stage would be War, I think there should be a "Angry, Hostile, Furious, Seething or Outraged" relation stage before going to War. How hard is it to change one word if that word is causing confusion?

Hmmm... I have seen Angry in the game I believe. I am not saying the AI would not declare war after being cool, the Drengin declared on me shortly after being annoyed when they were far ahead in "power". I pretty sure there is an angry stage after cool. I haven't checked but I am nearly positive they do become angry.
As for changing from the word cool, it's cool with me either way.
Ya gota love these totally game changing debates
.
Originally- Should annoyed be switched with cool => Nope
Now - Should cool be replaced with angry, Hostile, Furious, Seething or Outraged => Sure, better sounding precursor to war
Second Franco's : it's cool with me either way

Originally I thought this was a mix up, hence the title. But as a few people have discussed and shared their views I have realised that the word 'cool' is more ambiguous than I first thought, with a lot of people associating 'cool' with 'cold'. Hell, even if were changed to 'cold' it would be a darned sight better than 'cool'
