Game unplayable after today's patch (.4816)

Hello,

After today's patch, my game is unplayable, I have a very low fps in the main menu, and the game crashes after clicking one or two buttons (ie, trying to go to options and changing the settings).

My computer is a retina MacBook Pro 13''  (with Iris / HD5000 integrated graphics) and I'm running OTC on bootcamp, on Windows 8.1. Please let me know if you need dxdiag or some other diagnostic stuff. I used to run the game in full screen at 1680 x 1050 and it ran well except for a late game UI lag. Now it launched on windowed 1920 x 1080 and changing the resolution increases the framerate but it's still very low in the menus and it ends up crashing.

I don't own a Mac so this might be completely of the mark, but it seems you can run the game as a Mac game without the need to start the Windows emulator. It even runs on Linux, from what I've seen posted here!

I run the game under both OSX and Vista, both on my iMac (Vista installed in Bootcamp partition). The reason to run under Windows is the game runs better, probably because Windows GPU drivers are better. I can run 1920X1080 (Medium quality) under Windows. To get the same performance under OSX I have to run it at 1600x900.

Windows 8 here on Toshiba laptop with i3 3120M and Intel HD4000 processor, menu is fine, crash when starting a quick play game...  I was playing along just fine before update.  Sad face.

another reason it is better on Windows than on OSX is because you can disable that very irritating edge map scrolling (which is a problem on most games when the map is bigger than the viewport).

If you're running on PC, can you try to run the DX9 version to see if that works?

It is very tough to read that people's interfaces aren't drawing.

D3D9 works for me.  I couldn't find a setting under D3D11 that worked.  Tried full screen, windowed, and different resolutions.  Using D3D9 no more crash.  My specs are above, and the crash was the thing that says windows is looking for a solution  It happened reliably everytime I'd hit a tutorial start or quick play start.  Menus might have crashed once, but I could most navigate in the starting menus.

I'm happy to hear that D3D9 works for you. Thank you for trying stuff out to see if it would work.

We'll talk at work tomorrow about how to fix things moving forward.

Thanks!

I had the menus disappear while I was changing the resolution and making it full screen after having just bought the game. The game is now unplayable after reinstalling it many times. I am on a macbook pro. I have also tried D9 and D3D9 but to no avail.

my menus are gone no too on Vista. I tried the start while holding down shift key to choose resolution. I tried various resolutions with/without windowed mode and nothing works. My drivers were just updated to the latest too. It was working before this update. Now I can't play at all.

How do I start the game using DirectX 9 drivers? That option used to appear and now it's gone too.

It is OK on Mac Mavericks though.

To start with D3D9, In steam, right-click on game, click properties, and then set launch options.  Add this: -force-d3d9

There is a .bat file that you can also run in the game directory, but I find this a more convenient way to start it.

Wait.  Are you talking Windows Vista?  That's pretty far down on the minimum requirements, isn't it?

Thanks for the pointer Tigershawk. I'll try that. And no, it isn't pretty far down the minimum requirements. It's completely off the list (late-2009 iMac). Which means I don't expect any support. And since my specs are so low I even asked the devs if I should stop posting my feedback so as not to add noise to this forum. But they told me to keep posting because they were glad to know how the game performed on such a low-spec system.

And besides, before this patch the game was running smoothly at 1900x1080 medium quality on a machine running Vista with only 256MB of video ram. I think they just made an arbitrary call on minimum specs to play it safe and because they had nothing lower to test the game on than what was in their studio (and also to cut down on amount of support that customers might think they deserve. And If I'm right about this I can agree 100% because I used to work in customer support and didn't want to support a lot of versions of OSes and hardware.)

Hello, sorry for the super late reply, couldn't play at all during the week due to work.

Happy to say that the new patch (.4853) fixed the UI issues I was having!

Looking forward to the development of this game!

Cheers!
