You "have to love" Win 8 ...

Someone, somewhere might....

I 'really' only have it on my Laptop...[the 2 installs in VMware and VirtualBox don't really count]...

....and now Internet Explorer is in a death-spiral of crashing...and telling me it has...and telling me it will restart....and do I want to restore the last session...and then it crashes...and tells me it has....and telling me it will restart....

The IT Crowd will tell me to...

"turn it off and turn it on again..."

...which I'll try first....

...but I'll bet my left proverbial I'll be uninstalling IE and reinstalling it....

Mark my words...eightwillneverbeonmyprimemachine....;p

I know I will be an outcast after this post.

I know that I am opening myself up for lots of punishment.

I have 8 machines in my house. They all have windows 8 on them.

I like it.

Of course, yes.

I mean, who would ever have the effrontery to presume that Microsoft could actually write a program that worked properly on their own OS?

What on earth was I thinking? ....;p

When I purchased my new Laptop less than a year ago it came with windows 8. I used it for a while and did the upgrade to 8.1. I even boasted about how good it was here in the forums. As time went on I began experiencing a bunch of issues such as ownership issues, trying to rename a file or delete it and just silly stuff like that. Reinstalled a couple times and it never solved those little annoying problems.

So I spent a day tracking down all the drivers for Windows 7 and installed that on my machine. I no longer have the issues I had with 8 or 8.1 however I still have the problem you are having with IE and I am using 7 so it is obvious IE is just broke, has always been broke and probably will always be broke. I like Pale Moon.

Now I'm gettin' nervous - contemplating a Surface Pro 3.  >_>

This wasn't even one of those pathetic OEM installs bundled with 'choke-me' addons.

It was a format and install from scratch...along with the update to quasi-9 aka 8.1.

Both the lappy and my desktop are 'up to date' update-wise....and 7's IE is fine [now].  It used to CTD FSX ever since 10 so I had stayed with 9 till long after 11 came out...but I finally convinced 11 to play nice with MS's own FSX too.

I actually don't do a great deal on the lappy...so it doesn't have the [usual] excuse that I like to break things....it's managing that on its own.

Last reboot had it telling me it was a duplicate IP addy on the network...ie. it had forgotten who it was....

I'm considering buying one too, so if you're in doubt just get me one. ;)

Why would anyone use MS IE?  :P

Considering that i NEVER use IE. Went as far as uninstalling it on my Win 8 rig. Since then... no problems. You want to talk about "choke me" add-on's, try buying an HP laptop. Then spend an entire day removing all of the proprietary crap software that you KNOW will never be used. Just wish i could get rid of this "add to pokki menu" when i right click on anything. Leave it to HP to install BS spyware.

I've never had those ownership issues with Win 8/8.1, so I don't know why you experienced them... though I've heard some OEM machines can preent users with issues.  In fact, Win 8/8.1 has been the least problematic OS for me, though until now my experiences have been on self-built machines with a clean install from disc.  However, I now have a Hewlett Packard laptop-come-tablet and there was some OEM junk on it to begin with, but I simply used a proggie called Decrappifier and got rid of it all in one fell swoop... took all of 10 - 15 minutes, I guess.

Before you invest in a Surface Pro 3, take a look at the HP Envy x2.  I was going to go with a Surface Pro 3 to begin with, but once I'd seen the HP Envy x2 there was no turning back.  While it is similar to the Surface Pro 3, the Envy x3 comes with the keyboard [the Surface Pro 3 doesn't] and has a bigger screen... 13 or 15 inches.  The Envy x2 also has the pen for handwriting, etc, so it pretty much does all the same things  but will cost you 200 to 300 bucks less, depending on which model you go with.

Anyway, it is worth a look. :)

AM using version IE 11.0.16 and am not having any problems on W7.  On my vista am using version 9.

I use IE 11 on all of my machines. With zero problems. None. Zilch. Nada.

I actually have 11 machines in this house. Two have Windows 7, nine have Windows 8.1 (one of which is a Windows 8.1 tablet) and one of those is dual booted with Windows 10 Preview.

I do run Windows 7, Vista, XP, 10 Tech Preview, Ubuntu, and Zorin 9 in virtual machines.

I know you'll call me crazy, but so far, only a few of those rigs run Stardock products. I use at least 5 of my Windows 8 rigs as Microsoft made them.

I have a few touchscreen machines and have gotten quite used to the new UI.  o_O

you all are just so silly. O:) sometimes upgrading to the newest and (supposedly) the best is not always so. It all comes down to personal experiences and what you want these OS's and browsers to do for you.

I use win7, IE8 (both 64 and 32 bit) and firefox 28 and see no reason to upgrade any of these as they do want I need/want from them. I have some disappointments with firefox regarding silverlight functions (netflix) and on a regular basis telling me that my flash is out of date and disabling it, I have version16 which I believe is current. And well there is an issue with netflix and IE that netflix blames on IE all versions, but none the less my browsing experience is fairly under my control which suits me fine.

Well, I buy cheap, resell for profit. I have a small customer base, so I just hold them till I sell them.

I have 3 gamers, a laptop, a tablet, and a netbook that aren't for sale.

I enjoy building, repairing, and tinkering with PCs.

Loving 8.1......no issues with IE and I would use it regularly if it was not for the crappy font bleed. Chrome is my browser of choice but you guys got me intrigued in Pale Moon and I must say I'm quite impressed so far. |-)

With my new machine I think half the trouble is it boots too fast for the OS to catch up with itself....and locks when the MS flag starts its squirl...

...cold reboot...typically about 3 times...

..and then bang...it's up and loaded....;)

Of course, it's 7 and thus isn't trying to fool people like 8 does...;)

Terry's taken the lappy to work for a Presentation....hopefully it won't crash and burn while she's using it [Powerpoint pres].

It's a fairly decent machine...ASUS R500A i7 3610.  It's just that corny OS...;p
