A bit frustrated at price variance - Steam vs Stardock store

I only purchased last night, as I was initially going to wait until it was on steam to use steam wallet money, but I wasn't sure if the 10% off was carrying over to steam release. So I jumped in and bought last night.

I was pretty frustrated while waiting for install to notice that the price on steam is currently $39.59CAD - While I paid close to 46$CAD ($36USD) last night on stardock store. (Our dollar sucks right now)

I can forgive some variance to currency conversion craziness, but 6$ is a bit of a slap in the face.

Any chance I can get a refund, and just repurchase on steam store?

If you wait to purchase a game 6 months or so after it's released, you can usually get it for 50% of the original price. (if not more)

In the age of digital downloads and Steam, no one should ever pay full price for a game.

And waiting gives you the opportunity to read reviews and decide if a game is worth buying, thus potentially saving you even more money.

What? Did you even read what I wrote?

I was happy to pay for this game, just annoyed at the currency conversion stuff that cost me an extra 6$... bit much in my opinion.

If no one ever paid full price for games - awesome little niche games like this wouldnt exist....

It looks like the Stardock price is correct.  The game is $35.99 US so that is about $46 CAD factoring in credit card exchange rates.

Why the steam price is lower I cannot say, perhaps they have incorrect exchange rate numbers in their system.

The prices are the same in the US (and on our store we only price for US), but Steam does automated regional pricing. So their prices in other locales may be more or less in the local currency, rather than a flat exchange as we do.

Yes, I did read your post.

You're the one who bothered to make a post asking for a refund so you could buy it on Steam for a whole $6 less. :|

The intent of my post was to help you save money.

Don't try to backtrack and pretend that  you don't care about saving money....

Thanks for reply Neil/Kryo - unfortunate circumstance for me I guess. Suppose not too many other people got hit by this.

Just seems like you are trolling - why would I need some random strangers help on the internet to save money - ignorant. Of course I care about saving money - this game was pricey enough so 6$ is significant; felt a bit of a burn, as anyone would.

Why are you even in this thread?

You seemed concerned about saving money, and I was offering sound advice. If you want to keep paying high prices for games ( "the game was pricey enough"), that's your business.

And this is the Internet. You know, free exchange of ideas and high minded concepts like that. You are under no obligation to follow my advice, so you could just have ignored my post.

Interestingly it's the opposite in the UK. It's £26.99 on Steam but I bought it from Stardock and the conversion from USD to GBP made it £23.36. So it's more expensive on Steam here.
