After Patch 2 Culture Observation

First I should mention that at turn 186 in an Immense game, I started running into very frequent freezes (not CTDs).   I then loaded the OPTIN patch 2.  I then was able to continue, and the performance seemed much better (I have 8gb memory).   So far so good!

Now on to the meat...of course I was very interested in the culture bug and the Hot Fix.   In the game mentioned above, namely

if anyone wants to check it out.   There was a "blob of doom" that had appeared near one of my colonies.   After the patch...it was gone.  Great.

I did look over the map, however, and did see a couple of situations that seemed odd...although, to be sure, I am not at all certain, on thinking about it, that these aren't exactly as expected.   However, as I say, they do look a bit curious.

This should probably go under support, sorry.

I think both of these are working as intended. They both make sense to me according to the way I understand influence. Influence experiences an exponential drop as it heads away from a planet until it hits the edge, then it drops to 0. There is a very good thread on how influence works that I can't find right now to link.

Top: In this one you can see that the Altarian planet is able to hold its influence against the Krynn for 6 tiles in the direction of the edge of Krynn space and holds influence for 9 tiles away from the planet. To the left side, the 6 hex radius reaches the edge of Krynn space and then in the last 3 tiles the Krynn have no influence. To the bottom, The Altarians hold on for 6 tiles but then the Krynn overtake them for 2. Then you hit the edge of Krynn space and the Altarians get the 1 hex edge.

Bottom: This one is a simple matter of Alterian influence extending further than Krynn influence, but within the Krynn's influence they are stronger.

Appreciate the explanation.   As I said, I suspected that things were ok --- these aren't examples of influence just blatantly being wrong  (right on top of a high influence colony, for example).  The patch work quilt of colonies that are some Altarian, some Krynn is responsible for the odd patterns.   (Fortunately I am on very good terms with the Altarians in the game.)

I will try to search for the thread in question...if anyone knows where it is, please drop a hint.

[EDIT]  Hmm, I think maybe you are referring to

https://forums.galciv3.com/457630/page/1/   a detailed discussion started by Gilmoy.  Guess I need to jump in!   Brrrr, the warter is cold, but I will get used to it...
