[Bug] Gold Overflow
I made too much gold and it basically went negative, stopping production and research. It was around -2.5 million or something.
Probably had something to do with each of my planets churning out around 5-8k gold per turn.

You might have hit the cap and it wrapped to the lowest value.
Yeah all the values are maxed out at 2.14....million or so. Military power, ship power, credits, population, etc. Once they hit the max (look up int32) it wraps to the max lowest, -2.14 million or so.
Depends on how their tables are set up, but hopefully they'll be able to easily change them all to int64, which will fix the problem.
You might want to move this to the Support forum - that will increase the chance that the bug will get added to the list and get looked at.
To move it, edit the original post and change the category to "Support"
So, If you are getting close to 2 mill, you might want to go on a shopping spree. Knock off some expensive purchases on your planets, buy ships, purchase techs. Be happy!
Thanks for reporting. I've added it to our list. ![]()
If there was a 'rush' tech option which allowed you to instantly grab at tech at say 3x the 'tech points value' in cash that would be very cool.
This has also happened to me. A related problem was that I even kept playing until my balance was positive again (I was making a lot of money). But, when I did grow all the way back up past zero again, the research and production remained stopped. I'm guessing this won't be an issue if the original overflow problem is fixed, but I haven't had my balance go negative by conventional means either, so I thought I'd mention it.
I've also had overflow occur on the 'power' metric, but it looks like that's already in your bug log.
This game is great, can't wait for the fifth beta!
I thought the "negative" problems for money and power were well documented and scheduled for a fix.
It has happened to me several times. When I earned my way out of the hole, I had to manually reset production.
To be honest, if the ability to earn that much per turn remains in the gold release, it should be a financial victory when you hit the limit. There is no way you could lose the game with that much BC and there is no way the AI will ever get to that point imo.
I'd consider it more of a balance issue (provided the income didn't come from a bug to begin with) that you can even accumulate more than 2.1 billion credits.
Increasing the size only makes it take (a lot) longer to hit, it doesn't fix the fact that you've got game-breaking amounts of money, or that it'll wrap when it passes 2^63 (instead of 2^31).
i think you are understating how much "a lot longer" is in this case
2,147,483,648 =2^31
9,223,372,036,854,775,808 =2^63
2.1 billion vs 9.2 quintillion (i had to look up quintillion) this is not just a well its double the previous cap i mean the second limit is
4.2 billion times larger then the first number
its (2x the original limit) x (the original limit)
well heres the problem
IMO it does come from a bug however back when this bug was originally posted in .51 we were told its not a bug and is intentional

the short version of the link
((population X production mod X manufacturing) / economic stimulus ) X (economic modifiers) = Really Big Numbers
a fix would be to have these values add to net income/research rather then gross income/research and also tweak the stimulus cost values
other fixes would be required as well this only addresses one part of the fact that the entire economy is overpowered
Well the real problem is that this pops up for Power and Ship Attack values too ![]()
