GC3BetaFixMod

This USER Mod fixes some issues and changes some things to make the Beta more playable,

NOT recommended to use in multiplayer

NOT recommended to use with another version as 0.61 (Beta 3)

revert this mod by using steams repair option

(in steams library right click on GalCic3 -> Properties -> Local Data: then left click -> check game files)

So, what are my risks if I use these mods?

Quoting kryo, reply 9

The risks of using mods on the beta:

- You incorrectly report problems caused by mods as bugs with the game, taking dev time to investigate non-issues.

- You fail to report game issues fixed or mitigated by mods, and as a result they don't get noticed and fixed in the base game.

v0.61.1 User Mod Changes:

  • Fixed some issues with "Approval"-Improvements and Enabled some Techs,
  • changed the Approval-Bonis in the Krynn Techtree to GoodsAndServices
  • Enabled 2 Techs in the Yor Techtree so they can use all Terraforming-techs/improvements
  • fixed the GalaxyUnitedCelebration UP -Resolution
  • changed SystemBoundarySize to 1 (some say 2 or 3 is better but i like it like this^^)
  • changed Planetary Projects so they dont need to be micromanaged anymore

Let me be the first to say a big thank you.

Do we just dump these into our Galciv3 dir:  e.g.: C:\Users\Bruce\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods ?

Thanks...

I dont think the mod directory works yet,

so you have to overwrite the files in ...Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilization III\data\Game

to go back to normal you either rename the original files befor you unpack the mod or you use steamrepair

I've been making copies of the original first and putting them 1 directory higher in case something goes wrong. ...Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactiv Civilization III\data

Ah. Now I see what is going on. This is a "user mod", not something from Stardock. That is why it doesn't show up in Steam.

So, what are my risks if I use these mods? What happens if some of these files are replaced by a Stardock update? Will this mod work with future Stardock updates?

What happens in multiplayer? Will it allow multiple players join the game if the joining players don't have this mod?

Oh, and I don't think it is appropriate for a user to include a GalCiv version number such as you have. 0.61.1 implies that this mod came from Stardock as an upgrade, which, I feel, is inappropriate and misleading.

Educated guesses, I'm not a developer myself but have done some studying of coding and I'm not the modder.

Risks, same as any other download from the internet.  Do you trust this person not to screw with you?

What happens if replaced by Stardock, depends on how Stardock does the updates, if they just overwrite the current files they just overwrite, if Stardock only changes what needs to change it might cause issues again depending on the behavior of the updater.  I would think that files are overwritten as that provides better version control.

Will this work with future Stardock updates, probably not but likely Stardock will have fixed the issues anyway.

No idea how it affects mutliplayer, I would think you would all need to have the same files but I don't know that is in the code yet.

risks are that you get hacked, your pc explodes or ... well the usual stuff when you download somthing from someone u dont know

the next update would overwrite this mod, thougt i would recommend to use the repair option from steam after that to make sure nothing is left

(it seems stardock only overwrites files they made a change to, some files in the data folder are from juni)

well i wouldnt recommend playing multiplayer with modded files

Well i choose the number like this to indicate that this mod is supposed to be used with beta 3 (wich had versions 0.60 and 0.61)

It's great to see other people making mods available of thongs they fixed &tried tweaking to better results!

As to the question of"what's the worst thing that could happen?".. The answers are:
  • you get an error indicating the file, line#, & character position  with some bad data & have to choose between clicking quit/ignore buttons
 • the game crashes & you have to put the original files back or wait like 10 min for steam to repair the changed files with originals. Modding the xml files is remarkably low risk & a great wy to explore, go for it!

Excellent. I would recommend one more change. Where you say "v0.61.1 Changes:", I would recommend something like "User mod v0.61.1 Changes:"
