The Dead

OK. This has been going on for a while from other folks' reports, but I have finally proven it for myself.

The Dead faction is pretty much useless to itself as an AI player.

For two games I put the dead in. I was playing with a total of 7 players. 4 empire and 3 kingdoms. I just put the Dead in as a balance tipper to make it harder for myself as a kingdom player.

They just don't expand!! What is actually going on here? The weird thing is that on the first game they were at war with a couple other players and I found it odd that they were surviving. I got into a bad position and lost my last city so I thought I'd take theirs. Turns out they had a truckload of units stationed in the city. Just sitting there all garrisoned. I couldn't take the city.

They could have taken the Tarth city to the south of them with no issue but they just sat there. What exactly is holding them up? I thought the Loa in SOTS2 was the most troubled AI faction in any 4x game I saw because they had problems using their unique morphing ability, but The Dead takes the cake. At least the Loa will expand even if they don't use the most efficient methods for doing so.

I disabled the dead DLC on my computer because the AI plays it so poorly.

The dead AI plays very poorily because I think the dev team is feeling averse to making the AI build town halls etc. I killed them when they needed that one death shard and they couldn't build the town hall. The difference was one more radius would have given them a death shard into their radius. And then that would have enabled morrigan's call for them, there was two death shards reachable if it built townhalls and other upgrades.

That happened last year.

In fact, AI as whole plays very poorly, they don't even build townhalls and such. Nor take advantage of teh city upgrade that eliminates all unrest from a single city if they're struggling with unrest.

That doesn't make any sense to explain why the Dead in particular have 1 or 2 cities no matter how long the game progresses. I've had other AI empires with cities and armies a plenty to attack me with. The Dead in particular seem to get nowhere, no matter how many games I try with them included.

Did you played the Dead? I think there is a bug to build pionneers. Even if you have more than 30 people it is often grayed out and say "Not enough population". It took me ages to build just two of them. Even with 120+ population I could not build a third pioneer.

Sounds like a mod conflict. Never seen this myself.

Agreed, never had that issue. If not a mod problem, any chance you are looking at max population rather than current population and just have never had growth in those cities after building original pioneers? I know I've had bigger brain lapses while playing.
