Newbie question - Will there be carriers with fighters?

Hi

I have played a touch of Gal Civ II waaay back, and hardly touched Gal Civ III.

So I know nothing about how war is intended to be in Gal Civ III. Is there a post describing how it will be when the game is finished (in general, not in full detail of course).

I dream of trying to overwhelm point defense with missiles and launch fighters from my carriers. Maybe having a huge laser/plasma beam on a battleship that will cut through anything :)

Short answer - Yes there will be carriers its mentioned in the dev streams and the journals.the prevailing theory is that it'll be a module that you add to a large/huge hull that carries 5 of your default fighters? supposedly.

Remember though, GC is not a combat game.  So you won't have minute tactical control over combat.  For that, I'd look at another game.

I dont want to control the battle :) I want to choose between stuff like tons of missiles or fighters. I want to mix a fleet with different tasks like carrier, battleship, frigate (to protect the big guns) and so on. Then I want to see it all play out (like Dominions or something)

I vivdly recall late game tactical engagements in MoO2. I am fine with automatic resolution if I at least get good VFX to go with it.

I remember MOO II clearly (one of the best games ever made), but I dont remember combat in GalCiv... I have played MOO II about 50 times as much as GalCiv II though...

MoO2's tactical combat (optional as it is) is loads of fun, I won't deny it. As fleets got larger and stronger, it also became more time-consuming.

I would love a new game in the spirit of MoO or MoO2 but I'm not looking to GalCiv to fill that role, and I am okay with that.

GalCiv's combat was basically, have your fleet stack attack an adjacent fleet stack. There'd be weapon sounds and explosions and both sides suffer damage. If you have movement points left, you can attack again and again until you run out of movement or enemies.

GalCiv2's combat is also auto-resolve but you got to see the ships fighting without being able to directly influence or participate.
