Starbases are uneffective vs ships???

Starbases are uneffective vs ships???

Advanced weapons, 80hp yet destroyed by a ship with minimum weapons and 20hp

As example, within this engagement i always lose my space station....

How is a 7/3 14/3 7/3 with 80hp losing vs a 6/12 0 0 20/24hp????

I think some people are misunderstanding the main issue here, so allow me to emphasize:

Starbases do literally nothing to ships.

Not a scratch.  Any ship with a weapon can take out any starbase ----- no matter what.

I just had a tiny, 6 HP, 4 attack, 0 defense ship destroy a 21 attack (7/7/7), 9 defense (3/3/3), 80 HP starbase without any damage.  That should not happen.  Starbases defenses aren't just ineffective, they have no effect whatsoever.  There's no theory/lore excuse here, either - starbases have all weapon types, therefore a ship that can hit a starbase should be in range of that starbase's weapons.  A starbase with attack 7/7/7, defense 3/3/3, 80 HP should be able fight as effectively as a ship with similar stats, minus maneuverability (which should not make ships invulnerable to bases... effective, perhaps, but not auto-win)

I'm assuming this is a bug, but the statement made on the latest stream makes me think the developers are completely unaware that starbases are broken.  The constructors forgot to plug in the missile launchers.

Well considering they said in the last live cast you could get a star base to 100 attack and defense across the board with all the add-ons I am leaning towards not very strong.

100 across the board sounds decent until you realize that also during that live cast the two titan fleet had scores well over 200. So honestly, sadly, I don't see star bases being all that potent. That 100 probably won't be all that impressive by the time you have actually researched everything to get it.

100 attack and defense doesn't sound so bad. I would never expect a sb to stand up to dreadnoughts. I just don't want some 6 attack fighter roaring in like Luke Skywalker and destroying my starbase. Especially when in many of my GCII small map, end game stats, a SB would be rated as the strongest weapon in my arsenal.

When the game gets to the point that we are building Titans, only better equipped Titans are going to stand up.

Starbases do literally nothing to ships.

I've seen bases kill small fleets.

That said, if there is something really wrong with starbases in combat, the battle viewer will make it obvious.

This is why I am holding off playing anymore till beta 4.  Can't wait for the AI upgrades and the battle viewer (even if it is still early in dev) to start making combat more understandable.  At this point there is no real challenge to anything.

i agree, starbases are larger than ships and have more available power, so they should have greater ability to defend themselves.  On deep space nine, season one,  three cardassian cruisers could destroy the station but by the 2nd season (after star fleet upgrades), you had to bring a huge 50 ship fleet to take out the station.  That 50 ship fleet even if successful, would have lost 1/2 it power, which is point of the starbase, to blunt a enemy invasion.
