Galactic Civilizations III Beta 3 Now Available

http://store.steampowered.com/app/226860/

Weak fleshlings beware, the Yor Singularity has arrived!

Beta 3 adds everyone’s favorite synthetic sociopaths, who laugh at the idea of feeding their colonists or worrying about growth rates. Need more population? Just build some new units to augment the Singularity’s physical capabilities. Simple.

Also included in Beta 3 are big-moment cinematics done by our in-house team to mark occasions like your first capital ship launched or first colony founded, and our first pass at combat animations including visible damage states for starships.

We’ve also dropped in unique art for many events, made the UI reflect your empire’s color (GalCiv III is approximately 62% less blue, on balance), added a ton of (perfectly realistic) sound effects to many objects in space, completely overhauled balance, and much more.

Happy conquering!

Encountered a bug with music, it just stopped playing, sound effects are fine, but no background music.

Seven years ago, my computer at the time blew out half its RAM and began succumbing to the capacitor plague while I was playtesting the new Yor tech tree in Twilight of the Arnor.

Yesterday, Stardock releases the Yor for GalCiv 3 and my computer breaks, forcing me to do a full reformat and Windows reinstall.

Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

Also, the computer is working fine now.

What a horrible fate.

It's the worst.

It was also sorely needed, so I can't complain too much. I was able to save important files. :)

A few takeaways from my first time playing Beta 3:

  • Sound effects! I really like the different sound effects that have been added into the game.
  • Cut scenes! I am blown away by the quality of the cut scenes! I only wish they were a bit longer or repeating or something.
  • Artwork! Tremendous job on the event artwork! It is beautiful! I hope we get different artwork for anomalies, too.

The game is really starting to come together now. I can't wait to see the finished product and am already dreaming about what the expansions will be like!

Never realised how important sound effects are until after I updated...! Inversely some of them are a bit ridiculous. Like the Build command in the Shipyard. Sound effect is too long and if you build several ships it sounds like there is an echo!
