Building a ship, understand range of ships, parsec's and sectors

understand range of ships, parsec's and sectors

Ok, I read a bunch of wiki descriptions and am still confused about how the range of a ship is determined.

Lets me me start with one basic thing I was noticing while trying to build a ship.

So, I load the custom ship builder. Pick a hull(Medium)

In the Lower Right hand corner I see "Range : 0.1 sct"

Now I go to add a support module. Lets pick "Basic Support Module Range : 0.4pc"

After added In the Lower Right hand corner I see "Range : 0.7 sct"

If I clear all, and add the "General Life support 0.5 pc". that LR corner value goes to "Range : 0.8 sct"

If I clear all, and add the "Extended support 0.7 pc". that LR corner value goes to "Range : 0.9 sct"

Trying to understand what math is being used here.

Thanks, I have all sorts of other confusions in this, but I thought I would keep the question focused on one thing.

One parsec (pc) is one tile on the map. One sector (sct) is a 15x15 square of tiles. So a range of one sector equals 15 parsec.

The display is using decimal values for the range. So a range of 0.6 sct would be 9 pc.

The range for the Support Modules is designated as "pc", but is actually "sct".

The range is further modified based on map-size. The bigger the map, the bigger the modifier. This makes it difficult to determine how much the range is going to change, if you add more modules. If you want to see the unmodified values, then you're better off using the Designer in the main menu.

Once the ship has been built, the range then gets further modified by your Range ability.

I hope this cleared some of the confusion.
