Electric wire made of 4 stranded DNA–computer breakthrough.

A team of Israeli scientists (Prof. Danny Porath, along with Prof. Alexander Kotlyar) have engineered a huge development. This is 4 stranded DNA along which an electric charge can be passed. This was published in Nature Nanotechnology this week.

This will pave the way for molecular computers which will be smaller, more sophisticated and cheaper. The four-stranded DNA can conduct up to more than 100 picoamperes of electricity up to more than 100 nanometers, 10 times further than had been managed under less rigorous conditions.

Now, all that has to be shown is that the 4 stranded DNA can be made to self assemble like our native 2 stranded variety.

How cool is this?!

Very cool. very, very cool.

Next step....computers that 'grow' ...;)

Actually, that's right, Jafo. Also, the molecules/compounds that will be the capacitors, resistors, etc. will be grown as well and the processors, etc. will be assembled molecularly as well. A wholly new type of computer far less dependent on scarce resources, and not run like traditional machines at all. Also, running on tiny currents and voltages...far less pollution...I can see a hopefully different world, altogether.

But will it play the latest Crysis at max detail?

Cloning a computer takes on a whole new meaning....;)

would someone convert these values to amps and meters for me, my calculator is broke.

It's my brother.  o_O

Yes, computers that can grow.  Is this also a step in the direction of making fully compatible 'designer' cyborg implants?

Not in my future. =)  We are in a time of chaos, the death of the old, the birth of the new.  Of course, IMO. =)
