[Suggestion] Just rename "thrall" unrest and be done with it

I read the conversation between Brad and Tatty, so I know what it means (slang for enthrall), and what it's about.

However, outside the beta, people may not know what it means, and it could cause confusion.

So, if you insist on calling it thrall, I suggest making sure it's explained during the official release.

...or maybe thrall is a common urban dictionary term, and I'm just behind the times

How about despondency? Apathy? Panic?

Thrall is an English word, which I believe to be fairly common. However I am not a native English speaker, but I have read many English (fantasy) books, and the word thrall is not uncommon.

thrall is synonymous to slave like subjugation.

Thanks for the education!

I think the more commonly used term is enthrall. I personally haven't heard thrall used in everyday language.

Which is why I made the post. :)

The thing is the "unrest" is better because it can have many sources, being thrall one of such sources.

 I really do like Heavenfall's ideas. :)

I realized after the discussion that it's not unrest. It's...hopelessness.  They've given up. They've fallen thrall to the Sorcerer King.

I'd say despair is the best fit for hopelessness (and also is used a lot in LotRs, which is nice). Thrall... it suggests to me that someone has been won over, or dominated magically. While despair feels more real, more mundane. I can imagine people falling to despair as the world is about to end without magic being used. I can't picture what it means in practice to become a thrall. Mostly because each time I hear the word I keep picturing the undead thralls from Myth 2 Soulblighter... two links if anyone wants to reminisce over the game:

(The first is a compilation of voice-over journal narration. The second an example of a large army of Thralls... walking over a large number of explosive charges... with predictable results. And a 'fatality' with the little friendly fire at the end.)

Yes, if "unrest" is out of the question then "despair" would be better. And the advantadge of "despair" is that this word adds to the game theme and makes the experience more immersive. Is amazing what can be the effect of choosing the right words!
