Crash on Start-Up

So I got the game this morning, installed it through Steam and played for a couple of hours without problems.  Exited, did some other stuff then came back later and now I can't get the game running at all.  A couple of seconds after the Sorcerer King Loading screen comes up, I get a pop up notice saying:

"Socerer (stet) King has stopped working"

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

I have tried restarting, and uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but to no avail.  I can't get back in.

I can't seem to attach a crash report here but will happily email it if you tell me where to send it

many thanks

I just had this happen on one of my machines as well, my work desktop to be specific. It started fine the first time, I went into options, set them all appropriately to this machine. Went back to main menu, got the message stating "some changes you've made require a restart of the game", did that and hasn't run since.

It does get to the graphic for loading screen, but never to the menu page.

Tried a couple things:

Verify

Uninstall/Reinstall. Tried this twice I believe, once with a restart of windows between uninstall and reinstall, once with a complete power down of computer between.

No luck.

Some of the settings I remember changing:

Turned music all the way down.

Set anti-aliasing to off.

Set game to skip intro.

Turned off some other more graphics intensive options (forget which they were, shadows and something else I believe)

Set auto-save to 4 turns.

Turned grid on (I think)

My guess is possibly something got left in the registry that is mucking up the works? Does the uninstall do a good job of clearing that out?

Sadly the patch today didn't fix this on my work machine :(

Will have to wait until I get home to give this awesome looking patch a whirl.

I believe they have seen the reports of this and are looking into it.

Awesome, great to hear! At least I still get to enjoy this on my home desktop :)

Try deleting your Prefs.ini file in and rerunning.

One of our engineers mentioned that if your old Prefs.ini is still in your recylce bin it'd be good to see your old and new ones to compare.  Let me know if you still have them.

Dang. Wish I would have read this earlier. Just emptied the bin about 15 minutes ago :(

Well, if you end up changing your game options again, and find yourself in the same situation (unable to start up the game again after the required restart), please do grab your prefs file.  We'd very much like to fix that issue.

I started a deep scan with Recuva before I left work. I'll check tomorrow to see if it finds that file to undelete it. If so, I'll PM it to one of you guys.

Sadly, no go on that. Must have already overwritten that file.
