Frogboy, two questions emerge:

1) If I take minors´ city by force, will I be still able to train their unique units? Or only by diplomacy?

2) Earlier, you mentioned available units depend on a way we build our cities. Good. So will there be any hard restrictions, like mutually exklusive buildings? I.e. going through the mounted units building tree prevents you from going through after the pikemen? Or is there a soft counter, like increasing cost of opposite building?

Or do you rely on time as a main deterent of "build everything" strategy?:)

1. That will be something we decide together.  I go back and forth on that every day. ;)

2. Currently there aren't mutually exclusive buildings.

This looks promising indeed. I like the charming old school style, and I can smell some very good, interesting and fun mechanics here.

One question on sovereign skill upgrades. Seems to me that you can choose a number of limited base skills, then improve on those. This means you can't get all excisting base skills eventually and have to do harder choices. Please say this is true.

That reminds me of the great good old HoMM3 hero upgrade mechanic, were you had harder choices in a way when upgrading skills then in more modern fantasy strategy/RPGs. Having to choose between only 3 posible upgrades every time you hit a new level (for instance updating two excisting skills, or choosing one randomly generated one of the unchosen skills), would do it even more interesting (as in though choice), and HoMM3 like.

The old school way of doing these things are alot more fun and interesting then the skill trees you see in every game nowadays.

Okay. Looking forward to the day D, when we shall start deciding ;)

Judging by the number of screenshots, the crunch is near!

New screens are in!

I was counting the number of the units on the field of the tactical battle and my smile was widening :)

But the screen with the sovereign was somewhat disappointing, very few options visible.

Here is the idea - which I do not know why has not been implemented before. For the sovs and heroes we have:

tree skill, linear development, or pick one of three random skills showing up. How if we have the web?

Webs are used already for some games for the technology trees, why not use one for the heroes. Example of a good web of skills is the path of exile, which is ARPG. For those who do not know it, here is the link:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree

I think it will be great: you can start as "general" hero and choose whatever you want, including all possible hybrids between the classes. You can have lots of levels, even if not all levels are significant. You have a choice - ranger and necro? why not? fighter and magician? why not? Just plan your hero carefully. And the list of possible combinations is enormous.

I hope one day someone is going to use it - in my opinion that is the best way for levelling.

Heh, so now the only question that remains is WHEN?

Should I reserve time after work next tuesday or thursday? ;)

Yeah. Shh? I don't know that I can do that.

Oh wow, October 2? I feel like a bit of a piler-on. I had no idea the game was so close to early access when I joined the founders yesterday.

I do like the idea of deviating from the tree system of leveling up heroes. I always enjoyed the old fashioned, semi-random method of leveling in Heroes of Might and Magic and Age of Wonders Shadow Magic. As for modern systems, I really like the Age of Wonders 3 system for heroes. It gives the player a lot of choice in how to respond to what that particular random map is throwing at you and it avoids feeling overly linear like a skill tree can after you have played a game or two.

I'm happy to elaborate further on how the AoW3 system works later but I'm typing on my iPhone right now...

Well, I ponied up the $20. I'm really digging the artwork. Reminds me of Torchlight, a really fun dungeon crawl. Well not cartoony like Torchlight but some really nice artwork. :)
