Reporting Feedback and Game Issues in the Forums

I wanted to take a moment and make a post about reporting feedback, ideas, and issues with the GalCiv3 game, since some have been asking if we actually read the feedback given.

The answer is a big yes.  The dev team including Lead Designer Paul Boyer (mormegil) and Producer Ray Bartos (Raynman) read the feedback given in the feedback and support forums. Whether it's a user-requested feature or a technical issue, we take the feedback and see what can be incorporated or that the technical issue is logged and resolved.  There are also other team members including myself that monitor the forums and bring up items that need to be addressed.

I also want to let everyone the proper areas to provide feedback.  Keeping order in the forums with all these posts makes reading and collecting feedback that much easier, so please try to post to the appropriate forums described below.

Hey all of you,

i wonder if its possible when you create ships by using the ship-creator, is there the possibility that when the yhips become bigger by scalling that the cost and the room for weapons and stuff is also growing? In this  way its possible you create very very big ships with sooooo many weapons and drive engines a.s.o., but also the construction cost is rising extremly. The idea behind is that you can create very small ships with minimum cost and also very huge ships with high cost. So you can dicide to build a fleet with "millions" of small ships like a swarm or building huge ships like planatery destroyers...

Please answer me....!

I found a bug, in beta 2 well in ideology you get to a point where some nothing can be unlocked and selected because you don't have enough points or you cant unlock any other boxes.. and have to exit the game with windows. very early on in the game.plenty of available boxes but unlockable.

Duly noted.

I fully intend to continue ... testing... enthusiastically.

Also, I hate the new minimum distance on starbases.  Six throws things off.  I'm sure there are advocates of six.  I am not one of them.

Hello,

I don't want to post unwanted feedback, so are typos something worth reporting and if so what is the best way to do so? I'm afraid posting a topic with 10-20 screenshots might be a bit excessive, but I could probably do that if it would help. If typos aren't a concern at this point that's fine too. Thanks!

Could you please update on whether you will have subtitles on the videos both pre-game, campaigns and end game victories? I love a good space opera but cannot follow the story at all presently.

(Special Question) to future espionage system. Coulde you use agents to hide infomation about trade freighters route and where it is going and give wrong info about where its going and use it to your advantege, like ambush. since its strange to have acess to where the freighter are going and whos freighters it is. when you see it from an enemys perspectiv or a neutral civ. ?

(Suggestion) to make space less empty and more filling. coulde you add Supernovas to galciv3 to make it more intresting as well to make space itself has a story about how old it is, since its strange to not have supernovas when its in space.

(Suggestions idea) to artifical creation for homeplanets or planets (like planets that has turned into a huge robotic planet . like a pysical change to the planet like terraforming, with special advanteges .

Exsample you homeplanet is a standard terran planet later in the game you have the options to uppgrade the planet into a specific type of planet with a special advantegs. You coulde turn your terran planet into a extreme planet of any kind with a specefic tech of terreaforming (like a lvl system from 1lvl-3lvl) Now what if you coulde use machines to build a lvl 3 chategory planet (not trough natural means, but artifical means) (specifc lvl sytems.

1 is standard planet. lvl 2 is extreme planet. and lvl 3 is artifical creation not by natural means but by the civs hands. like the Arnor and the dreadlords do (Altaria and the Alterians unatural way of development.

Coulde you make this possible Stardock since its a good idea :) ?

I have a few ideas so please excuse the large reply. I do think that most to all of these would make the game much more in depth. GO TO SUGGESTION 7 FIRST- IT IS THE ONLY ONE I TRULY FEEL NEEDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED. The rest just would make the game much more fun in my opinion.

(1) Possibly creation of planets or even stars? Obviously it would be a very late game tech. personally, I don't think incorporate a leveling system like how Archcreature(Reply 12) described it(As it seems a bit too unrealistic for my taste) but that's just my opinion.

(2) Possibly make disease relevant. Maybe make disease kill off population at a slow rate on infected planets(just enough to counteract the planet's growth in the begging) then eventually get bad enough that large chunks of the population die off every turn. You can add techs to prevent and slow, then even stop all diseases. Some diseases can even have things that modify other things (Fungal infection that slows population growth even more, Arthritis like effects that lowers production, brain tumors that lowers research, etc). Also, I think disease can be transmitted via trade route and throughout your controlled planets slowly. Diseases should also appear randomly like an event. This would make the game much, much harder so if it is implemented you should probably give the player the ability to turn it on or off at game setup. Possibly make it disabled by default and suggest to only turn it on for a more difficult game only.

(3) Not really much of a suggestion but possibly capitalize the star names sent in by the founders?

(4) As Archcreature said in reply 10, add in the ability for your agents to counter enemy agents from stealing tech(If tech stealing will exist in the game) and hiding trade routes and other information from the enemy.

(5) Add the ability to cull half your population. It seems violent but that seems like a good way to get rid of those extra 5,000 colonists for those who are too lazy to research the techs that increase your pop's happiness. It would make sense for the Drengi. It should increase happiness in the planet, but decrease the rest of your planets' approval. Or possibly just make everyone unhappy.

That one isn't going to make it in, is it. Oh well.

(6) Racial unrest? Say your playing as a Drengi and take over Altaria don't you think the Altarians living on that planet would be slightly enraged? It seems very unrealistic if they suddenly being acting like Drengi. Maybe put a racial modifier to the approval and list the majority of the population on the planet's race. Only certain races should cause problems. Like humans taking over a Drengi planet should cause more unrest on the planet then Terrans buying a colony from the Altarians. And if you took over the planet there should be a penalty for that planet, at least for awhile (Ex: 25 turns).

This seems like it would be a lot of work and could cause and have a lot of bugs so I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't added. It also seems as if it would be very confusing.

(7) I NEED this one: Rebels! If this is already planned, at least look at the suggestions for mechanics at least. If a planet's approval gets too low a planet can secede and create it's own empire. Maybe all ships stationed on it can also become part of their empire and they get 3 new ships when they secede. Once they secede the player they left automatically goes to war with them. If the player's capital secedes then maybe just make the capital move to the next planet if they have more then just one planet, of course, you could always make it be changed in a menu or just make you strait up lose. They can function as if they were just any other major(or minor if you would rather, but that would make it less fun.) except much more hostile than other races towards the player. Maybe make it to where they have a relationship modifiers(or whatever those things like "We are trading with you" or "We have common allies" are called) just for them that's called "We rebelled from you" or something like that, and probably make it 3 minuses(or 2 if you are feeling lenient). You can also make it to where if there is nearby rebellion groups and a planet secedes it joins that group. You can also make it to where when two groups rebelled from one people (such as two groups rebelled from you on the "north" and "south" part of your controlled area and break strait up through your "center" and meet up the two groups could join up with you and merge your existing war (That mechanic seems like it may cause a few bugs, but it would be very cool). You would then have one, twice as large, twice as strong enemy going strait down the center of what you used to control. Like I said before they should act as any other major civilization, so they can obviously go into war or even ally with any other civilization. They should also be able to call in allied civilizations into the war against you(or another group's rebels calling you into their war). They should also be able to win the game through the enabled settings like any major civilization(obviously). They should also be able to colonize new planets like any other civilization.

This defiantly needs to be implemented(or at least rebels of some kind). In our history many nations were created by rebellion (Such as the US, a small nation spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic oceans taking up nearly 4 million square miles)

(8) Terrorists and Bio-Terrorists. I think terrorists should be hired by going into where ever the espionage tab is and clicking on the hire Terrorists or Hire Bio-Terrorists. Terrorists should cost 5,000 bc(To counteract their power) and kill 2,000 people, and have a 25% chance to destroy 1 building at random. Bio-Terrorists should be 7,500 bc in my opinion, and kill 5,000 people, and release disease(If you implement my idea of disease then make that a way to get it, or if you don't, just make it a modifier to the growth statistic of that particular planet. There should also be a 50/50 chance that the civilization who you attacked finds out who sent the terrorists and declares war on you(If not already at war).

If you implement this I will turn the Terran Alliance into the space ISIS

(9) Pirates mechanics. I know pirates are a planned feature so I am just going to suggest what I personally think the pirates should be like. Pirates should have one pirate space station that 3 to 10 (usually 3 to 5) ships attached to. They can also sometimes(but rarely) have planets under their control. Also, you should make pirates from different stations(or planets) sometimes fight. Each pirate ship can only be linked to one station, but one station can have up to 10 ships. You cannot trade to talk to pirate ship, but they attack your ships and trade routes. They do not attack planets(As that would make it very hard for minor civilizations). They also do not make constructors, freighters etc.

(MAJOR BUG) My game freezes and I cannot interact with anything on the screen. These happen very often and the frequency of the freezes have been increasing. I have been closing the program once it freezes with task manager so my crash dumps might say it was closed because of task manager or something like that. I have 8 gigs of RAM and an i5 processor so I doubt that's causing it. I also have a new graphics card with updated drivers (I bought it earlier this year and updated the drivers 2 days ago).

Linked to folder. Message me if this link does not work

The most addictive strategy game ever (Apparently, strategy games can be addictive). All it needs is for the freezing to be fixed and the Beta would be fun for more then 30 minutes :P

I've found a bug.

I don't know why but every time I enter the game it would be fine then when i came to the galaxy editing, the game just froze and i have to restart the game and the same thing will happen. I don't know what's causing it but it makes me unhappy and can't play the game. The game also lags uncontrollably when i even try to play it.

I came up with an idea for the lvl3 artifical planet lvl from my own quick reply. (read reply 12 first) in galactiv civ there is always dead planets with no life on them but what if you coulde use them to gain a lvl 3 artifical planet like sacrifice meteors and of course those dead planets and use them as a material for turning your own homeplanet/planet into a lvl 3 artifical planet.

like the concept of a black hole if you add things to it it becomes bigger and better. What if that happend to your planet how woulde it looked like ? a city in space just build around the planet in order to make more space or a hige tech planet with a lot plates/plantary shield tech for defence or a huge solarpanel just outside the planet gravity gathering energy for producutions or whatever you need. those kinds of things tell me what you think of it :) ?

As well to this idea if woulde been reasonable to add not more tiles to the planet (unless there is an improvment from space that can build more tiles from space) but have an extra layer in space(like floors. The first floor is the planet and the second floor is the space around the planet with tiles of course. as well when you gained the seconde floor your capital (HQ for space improvments) becomes somthing like a tower reaching to space, to allow better access to space (like a new front for the space tiles where you can have special buildings in space for well space use.

Found a bug-

Wouldn't let me press done or cancel when filling up a colony ship with 2.9 population. I couldn't press done or cancel. I tried every value between .5 and 2.8 pop. Each time it closes it and brings it back up. I had to turn off GalCiv through the task bar.

i just got this game I think yesterday and I put in about 22 hours  I really like the game so far it only crashed on me twice I did find out that It uses a lot of memory about 4-5 gb out of the 8 that I have  I think the crashes Is due to high use of memory as soon as it hits the fullest amount of memory that you have it crashes or I could be wrong...also after a hour of gameplay the sound would stop...also hoping to see more graphic setting so think people who do have less powerful computer could downscale the game so It could run without crashing and to allow  to have 1080p with 144hz for smoother gameplay

I have a 'freezing game'. What happens is that while I'm playing the screen will freeze. No movement, the thing is, all the sounds work. Switching the different buttons and events still have and change music and noises as it happens. So the game is registering the actions, but not showing it to me. I am running this on a laptop, but I am running a good AMD Radeon graphics card on it and the drivers ARE updated. The times for these freezes is random and don't have a real pattern.

I have an idea for the Superpowers (such as super diplomat from galciv2 an exsample) coulde starting ally/allience have a (tech) or share your own super abilities when a allience is forged between two people. It woulde have a great effect on the game as well as give you a very strong reason to find yourselvs an allied player or a computer player for that specific reason ( the result woulde be the same as scouting for a specific super-abilitie you need. ( for war, economy power, faster Manufactoring power or an edge in any chategory even the smallest thing such as cheaper hulls for 15% and if the super- abilities are too strong why not make it less powerfull for the sharing player.

This woulde motivate players and making the game more fun when exploring and looking for a potent ally in the game. :)

i have an Idea for planets,( like events sort of) Coulde we have hostile elements such as a Galactic scale ZOMBIE APOCALYPS!! with different type of alien zombies. The effects of such events coulde trigger planet infestation and reduce your population to zero (until the quest event has been completed by you (not as a tech but destroying infected ship or starbase exsample) and in turn make neutral and a hostile planet to stay on, even if you succeed with your invasion force it woulde just happend again on the planet you invaded.

it woulde be a fun thing and keep players from just staying in their own  Territory for like 100 turns straight, and change the pace of the game. :)

(idea) in galciv 3 for the custom races coulde we customize our own home system before starting a game. what i am refering to is the apparance of our own homesystem, like adding lots of auroras or thick atsmosphere with tons of different colors to the planet. including our own sun or whatever we want to put in it.

(it woulde have an enormus potencial for creativity and for the players it woulde provide a feeling of fun and a unique thing beside the shipyard. To galciv3 i wish this feature to be seen (expansion perhaps) because this feature can become a (Revolution) for space games so i want galciv3 as a potencial space game to be the first game to intruducing it. ( as an idea of course )

(A) Since it will sort of give the players a welcoming feeling to it, as well make us feel that our civ is a special being in this huge galaxy.

(B) it woulde be a jewel amongs space games, and fill the galaxy with a lot of colors and creativity (players loves creative things, an other game exsample is (minecraft.) why do you think that reason is ?

ps mods will also add more to this concept as well so dont forget that. :)
