Sins vs GalCivIII

I've been playing sins and sins reb for a long time (single player).  I've been looking for something a little more up to date and was thinking of getting GalCivIII never having played the earlier versions.  Besides being turn based how is it compared to Sins?  I'm thinking more of how it will be after release next year.  Is it more complex than sins or about the same.  I'm ok with turn based, I play Civ5 a lot, though I do enjoy the RTS nature of sins so of course I'm hoping the next version of sins (a 64bit version) is in the works, but the meanwhile I'd appreciated some comparisons before I commit my $45.

Note also the Beyond Earth Civ5 is coming in Oct, I'm sure I'll get that, scifi plus civ5, but that doesn't preclude GalCivIII if it looks interesting too.

It is much more complex than Sins. And the battles will remain in what is known as a Combat Viewer in which you will be able to watch the action but no direct participation, though you will get indirect by way of ship building. It is similar to Civilizations series and is even known as Civilizations in Space. If you loved that game you will love GalCivIII.

Thanks, I like the idea of more complexity.  Think I'll plunk down my money.  I also was just looking at some ships people have created, looks fun...I like designing ships in KSP too.  I often don't micromanage my battles anyway so doesn't sound like too much loss there (sometimes I do, especially at the start when I know my guys need to target say an orkulus first before anything else, but after that I usually let them choose the targets and brute force their way through).

The only thing I want from Gal Civ is their planet system how they are laid out. with Suns and planets in each system.  this is how the next Sins needs to be.

I agree, their planet system is laid out nice, but for the next Sins I'd enjoy seeing the phase lanes between planets change over time, and randomly reconnect to the closest planet/s as they orbit around a sun.

Granted planets orbiting that fast isn't really realistic, but then again neither are alien Vasari or psychic Advent, but they makes for a heck of a fun game none the less :)

Having the moons of planets (which orbit the planets) places you can build a garrison defense fortress on would be fun too, sort of like a huge hangar bay/gun turret combo that held a dozen fighters and 4-6 long range weapon systems or something.
