Dream Central....Seriously!?

Dream Central....Seriously!?

Are dreams THAT easy to make that?

Really.....can we stretch out the upload of dreams so others can get exposure for all the hard work? Every time I come to the site anymore all I see is one dream after the other like an assembly line.

Not to go OT but the new Xion I'm working on.....wow! Loaded it up and it went bonkers! Lol Animations went in and out and in and out...I think I need to rethink it. LMAO!

Yeah...it's just ridiculous on here with the dreams. No point in working hard on a theme just to get pushed off the page.

That doesn't make any sense.  And if there were 15 Master Windowblinds tomorrow?  If your skin is worth anything it will be noticed.  How many skins have  you posted all at one time pushing out Dreams?

That's why some of us stopped uploading dreams as well. To answer your original question, no some dreams take far longer to create than others.

I've spent weeks setting some up and rendering them just to make changes and re-render. All that time and it gets pushed of the dream page in a day by something that shouldn't even qualify as a dream.

I'm not even sure the guidelines are being used since some of the ones I see posted don't even meet rule # 1.

I hear ya Carguy. And I noticed you haven't posted anything in awhile now. I have no idea what goes into making dreams...all I see is how fast and how many hit the front page all the time now. I usually try and give everyone some time on the front page to allow them exposure no matter what they created. As of right now I have 3 or 4 Winstep themes and matching docks I could upload...had these sitting here for a few days now. And a lot of the themes I've been uploading lately have all been sitting in my folders waiting to get done for some time. It's not just cut and paste as some have suggested...but they wouldn't know having never created anything. Even some of the docks I do takes days and in some cases longer depending on the texture being used...some I even ended up scrapping because it took so long and couldn't get it just right.

Anyway...I'm just venting...nothing I can do  about it.

Yeah, a lot of Dreams are showing up, but I don't even know how they could be classified as a Dream. Water moving while nothing else around it, even clouds are mot moving, it's so unrealistic. A bird flying around and nothing else moving, wind moving stuff and other stuff stationary, weird. To me a true Dream should be like watching a video with all aspects covered, everything that should show motion showing it, etc. Stationary fish! Wow! Video excerpts taken from the copyrighted screensaver program called Dream Aquarium and put up as Dreams, not legal! I think Dreams need to be evaluated with a LOT higher standards.

And we all lose.  No CarGuy, MasterBaron, Amitsaran or even Stardock anymore.  Dreams should now be called Nightmares.

I have a crapload of screensavers I made a long time ago, from still photos of bodies of water, made with a program called Nature Illusion Studio and/or Water Illusion Studio.

I could easily make them into dreams and upload. I haven't done so for several reasons, the main one being that they suck.

I have never seen a JPG animation that I would call a quality dream. I usually don't even preview them because they look so fake, nothing at all like real water. Just low quality.

Exactly what I mean.

isn't the current trend uploading video game screen grabs found on YouTube?

should be easy for a lawyer to extract some money from Stardock as the distributor of these copyrighted materials.

There are probably tons of them Moshi, but I don't play video games so I would have no way of knowing. Maybe we should compile a list of potentials and send the list to Stardock?

I remember years ago when people bitched that there were to many icons being uploaded and wanted them to be put into a package.  Then it was sysmetrics and rainlendar's.  Now its dreams and master skins.

This time some of the masters and JM dream makers have quit uploading.

Wonder whats next to cry about?

I know I'am getting old and maybe the memory isn't what it used to be but wasn't it RND and Giz the ones that were being cried about a few years ago for uploading to much?

Maybe we can cry about other skins and make then people quit uploading.  Damn.

It's called fair use as described in the various posts about this throughout the years.  That's why .dreams are only limited to a certain time usage or length.

If you see a .dream that clearly violates a copyright that is not fair use, then by all means send them over.  Make sure you note how it violates fair use and where the original file comes from.

And not uploading because some .dreams come up on the page?  *shakes head*

The home page can move quickly or slowly, it's no guarantee either way.  Your specific gallery pages which typically get way more page views than the main explore page is where people are going.

As I've said before, create more skins and submit them rather then worrying about something as petty as this.  First it was too many DesktopX skins, then too many Master skins, now we've moved to .dreams.

It's always going to be something it seems no matter what.

What ID said.

This constant apparent discrimination/elitism re skinnables needs to stop.

Yes, there can be 'mediocre' dreams....just as there can be mediocre icons....wallpapers....Windowblinds...et al.

People are just expressing their opinions guys, that's all.   :)

Which, of course, is the problem.

That's a little unfair. The time difference in making a dream and making a skin seems to be a wide margin. Maybe upping the quality requirement for submitting a dream would be more appropriate if what everyone else has mentioned regarding dream quality?

Yeah, you're getting old...hehe..

RND has never complained about over uploading. RND has been accused of over uploading/flooding the gallery plenty of times. Never complained about anyone doing it.

Giz used to get a thorn in his groin about my uploading too many DX items. But I always adhered to the rule of 5 skins per day, per gallery.

In this thread, I have not complained about over uploading. I have made a statement of my opinion on Dream quality.

**EDIT**   Oops, I misread you, WOM. You didn't say I complained, you said was complained about.  Still, I am not/have not complained about the volume of any uploads....ever.

WOM, I'm getting old too, so I understand...lol.

Ed Zachary.

WinCustomize.com used to be known as THE place to get QUALITY work.  It does seem that the quality standards have dropped. Not only in the dream gallery either.

Just opining here..... ;)

I do realize I'm a tad off topic. My apologies.....

Wow. Ok...my last words on this and then I won't bring it up again...ever

If I myself was uploading to much at some point...no one ever said a word to me about it. If they had I would have had no problem with that and would have backed off...no problem.

As far anyone else uploading to much at one time...I asked them nicely and directly to slow down or use another method so everyone...not just a few...gets a chance in the spotlight.

As far as being elitist? I do not think of myself as being special or elite...I just try to support the site which is what I'd tried to do since day one.

I really don't understand why it's so difficult to give just a little consideration to other skinners...people that take time to create what they do and not just slap something together. As I've said...I will see what was just uploaded and give at least a day before uploading anything I have. As if now I have 4 themes I could upload but haven't yet...they've been sitting here for days now. I was also going to update older themes but those will go straight to the gallery.

And the galleries...the galleries are great...but no that many people actually visit the galleries that often...I don't even think most people know they exist. Whenever anything I've done is on the front page or being featured is the only time I see people have downloaded it...after that it's crickets.

This whole thing was about being considerate. Just a simple thing...which got turned around...again.

Data says otherwise.

The main page gets the most pageviews for obvious reasons, it's linked from lots of places.

One would assume the next biggest area of the site visited would be the main explore page.

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/all

I would think so too, but it's not even in the top 10.  People visit the galleries a few ways.  Either directly linked from inside the app, direct link, or via site navigation.  People are hitting the main galleries most often, so don't assume all is lost once a skin leaves the "front" page.
