Getting tired of hitting the end turn button

I'm playing my first game with .4 on a large map. Wow this is slow game play. Own 12 planets currently and getting tired of hitting the end turn button.

Found two neighbors. All the map I can reach is explored. Started building combat ships as they have a few on their front lines. Even after cranking my ship building, still takes 3 turns to build a small, weak combat ship. Then another 7 to 8 turns to get it to my front line.

It takes so many turns to get ships across any distance. Combat ship speed is ridiculously slow at 4 hexes per turn. My fastest ship is 6 hexes per turn. Researched Ion drive. That boosts my ship speed to 7 hexes. Woohoo! Problem is my combat ships are too small reasonably to fit it. I should research the next larger ship size? Large scale construction is down the one research branch. Lots of research, at the sacrifice of other needed research. Lots of build time probably too.

I've played many 4x games. Getting tired of hitting the end turn button is a new experience.

You can hit Enter on your keyboard to advance your turn.

I believe the OP was referring to the game develops very slowly without much to do in his opinion.

The game play is certainly slower than I remember from GalCiv 2, in the early stages of a Large map game at least.  It feels like there is too much empty space between stars, objects, etc, even when setting map generation settings to Common.  The end of turn notifications and process could be smoothed over as well.  I feel like I'm clicking (end) Turn a million times only to have it tell me I have Idle Ships anyway.  See Civilization V for a proper unit/notification/turn progression.  It's very close to that in GC3, but I think a few tweaks would make it much smoother.

Yes, exactly. Discovered the hotkey listing. I'm now producing medium size ships moving 7 hexes a turn. 5 to 6 turns to get them to the front line. Everything is taking so long on this large map. 12 hours of playtime on this map so far. Perhaps another 24 hours to win? At 4 hours a day, 6 days?

Seems like shipyards don't care how far away planetary sponsors are. Guess I could pop a new shipyard on the front line and the switch all my sponsors to it. Eliminate the commute. Not sure its good the game works in this manner.

That is the idea of the shipyard, especially on immense galaxies. It doesn't care how far the sponsors are but there is a penalty for long distances to the shipyard. Instead of 100% productivity, it moves down to 50% the further away, down to 10%. Only way to manage a large map until they initiate stargates with starbases.

Sizes are smaller than before too, like not enough miniaturization it seems.

Well, really a large map looks like it was meant for 6ish factions. Only having four presents large amounts of space. A medium map for four factions seems to fit pretty well to up the action. You won't be able to ignore military as long on that map!
