Yea. The "I could care less" thing tends to make me cringe.
But so does: "You should of come over last night!"
Perhaps more than anything, it's tautologies that tend to drive me bonkers.
"End result" - Well if you're not at the end, you have no result. The result is the end of something.
"Free gift" - If it's not free, it's not a gift.
"Join together" - Redundant.
"Advance warning" - If it doesn't come in advance, it's not a warning.
"Safe haven" - A haven is a safe place. If not, then it's simply no haven.
"Added bonus" - A bonus is the addition of something, ergo a redundancy.
"AM in the morning/PM in the afternoon" - Ante-meridian and post-meridian imply time of day.
"Reply back"
(et cetera)
Or misused expressions:
"She just wants to have her cake and eat it, too." - This is completely backwards and misused even by my favorite authors. The original expression, which makes more sense, was: "She just wants to eat her cake and have it, too." Since, once you've ingested something, you can't also have it; it's gone. It dealt with the idea of not being able to reasonably have the best of two worlds.
"That boy is the spitting image of his father!" - Another ubiquitous misuse. The original was: "That boy is the spit and image of his father!" Which makes more sense, because he's the very spit, likeness, or image of his father. People simply (as is the case with the above 'could of/have' example) condensed the sounds, and eventually belched out 'spitting image'.
