Modding Mining Bases Production

Hi there, I like to do all labs on GCII Ultimate but I have yet to figure out how to use the production from the asteroid mines.  My guess is that there is a simple fix that I could do to make the output similar to the economic starbase production (mil/social/research) ones.  Anyway if anyone can point me to a fix that would be great.  Thanks kindly.  Dave

Changing the output of the asteroid mines requires editing the AsteroidFieldMiningBaseModules.xml found under Galactic Civilizations 2\DarkAvater\Data\English.

However, I'm not quite sure, if I understand what you want to do. Do you want to change the production bonus of the asteroid mines to a percentage bonus, or so it also affects research production? If so, then that isn't possible. Asteroid mines can only increase the base manufacturing production (like a factory).

If you only want to increase the output though, then that is easily done by editing the above file. However, the output is still going to be reduced the further away from the receiving planet the asteroid is. That is another thing that can't be changed.

Thanks for the speedy reply Gaunathor.  I wanted to change the type of mine output so that I could derive benefit from the asteroid mining when I was doing an all labs game. To speak more clearly, currently in an all labs game I can see no benefits coming in from the mines.  I checked if it benefited ship building, social projects or research and it did not - (because I do all my ship and social projects using research focus).

I had hoped that it would be possible to change the xml file to adjust the output from the mines from pure industrial to (industrial/research).  It's no huge deal, but I just hate to have something built into the game be unusable (and the mines look good on the screen).

Since I have your attention for a second, I noticed that you referenced the file in the DA folder. I am playing TofA (Ultimate Edition) and playing TofA.  Does your reply indicate that many of the base game files used in a TofA game are actually located in the DA folder?  This seems a bit strange to me, but correct me if I am wrong but did Stardock do a tiering system where the game backwards looks at mods/tofa/DA/DL when selecting what to load?

Thanks again.

Yes.

is there a way to make the time to build a mining base not take as long. I thought I had done this before but I can't remember what I did?

Sure. To do this, you need to edit the TurnsToComplete tag in the file I've mentioned in the first reply.

I am also considering to add this to the community-based update, but I'd first like to hear what others think about it.

You have ny vote to do so, with three upgrades total and over 50+ turns, games will be halfway over before they get the benefit.

You know how to actually increase the production given? I don't think its the bonus values tag?

Actually, it is the BonusValue tag.
