Newby to the series needing some help

Hey guys,

I bought the founder elite edition of the game a while back and have just started testing out the alpha!

I have a couple of questions about gameplay as i have never played any of the galactic civ games before!

To increase (movement) range of your ships do you have to either colonize a planet or put up a starbase? only way i have been able to increase my movement range so far by using those two methods!

What is the maximum amount of ships i can have in a fleet? its seems that when i try and add more ships to a fleet of 3 or more it just makes the added ships sit on top of that fleet and not merge!

Last question is, how do i mine Durantium and Elerium, and what benefits does this give me in the early alpha access?

Thanks in advance guys

the are planetary improvement and techs you can research to improve the range of your ships.

the maximum ships is controlled by your logistics number.  as with above you can improve this.

Not sure if the last one is active yet.

Hey Edladner,

Thanks for the reply!

I have already found that you can research improvements for range of ships! However it only seems to increase it a bit! Example scenario! I want ship X to explore the other side of the large map! Can i research something that will enable him to get there and perhaps future fleets to attack/Defend that far away! Or do i have to build starbases to increase that general range so that the fleet can get to the other side of the map!

Sorry if this doesn't quiet make sense. still trying to grasp the mechanics of the game!

As edladner said, for ship range you can use tech research to improve range. You can also go into the ship designer and equip a ship with more range modules.

Your maximum fleet size is determined by logistics, which is shown in the top right of the fleet display (bottom left corner of galaxy view). To increase logistics, this is done through research.

To mine Durantium and Elerium, build a starbase (using a constructor) nearby the resource. You must then send an additional constructor to the starbase, click manage (bottom left of galaxy view), then build a mining ring (top right pane on manage screen).

Durantium and Elerium are useable for weapons at the end of the tech tree.

Hope that helps!

Hey Trumpeter,

That helps greatly! was wondering how to do that! I have researched max level logistics for the alpha i believe which leaves it at 18! ive noticed that the NPC stacks there fleets to get 30-40 ships in one tile! When they attack does anyone know if they attack all at once or a load of separate attacks?

it depends on if they are fleets or separate ships if fleets that entire fleet will attack at once which you said appears to be capped at logi 18. although that number seems kind of low to me. so that fleet will attack all at once if there are multiple fleets each fleet should be resolved separately and if the ships are not in a fleet each will attack separately.

btw different ships have different logistics score so a larger ship will take up more space in a fleet then a smaller one

although this seems kind of backwards to me

Welcome aboard.  I didn't see anyone address this question other than saying that you can add range modules so...

The "range" of your ships is the distance from your territory (unsure if the mechanic is from the nearest controlled planet, or your sphere of influence).  Thus, your ships can access more of the galaxy if you have more spread out colonized planets.

Thus, the most expedient way to increase the range of all of your fleet is simply to colonize more planets across the galaxy.

cheers, haven't played much of GC3 too much yet, but 2 is still a blast.

thanks so much for all the replies and information! Last night I got over turn 500 in the large map! And into age of war tech tree. Man this game is fun! I can't wait for the game to flesh out more! This has got to be the most fun alpha I have played to date! Can't wait for fleet combat viewer and diplomacy ;)

Have also been messing around with the early version of ship builder! There is so much content in this game already! Ultimate sandbox with cool graphics!

Oh yeah, it is a great game. They had a very solid foundation coming from Gal Civ II, and have kept the same feel, but completely subtly changed the game from Gal Civ II.
