Sooo...the um city razing thing

Hi all, I'm brand new to playing FE:LH.  I very much enjoy the game, thanks for all the work put into it!

But so I guess it's old news that there's this feature that razing a city seems to permanently destroy the fertility of the city tile and its surrounding tiles.  I was surprised to encounter this feature tonight, and when I searched for topics on it to see if I was doing something wrong, it was apparently discussed and widely complained about back in 2012.  So...apart from the apparent dissatisfaction from majority of the people who posted about it, is that the end of the story on that topic?  I'd just like to say that for my personal gaming enjoyment, I'd prefer to be able to rebuild a city on the spot where a previous city was razed.

Thanks.

Heh, people are like rats (only sometimes more clever).  If you leave behind a habitable place, they will stay there and breed and resent you, so if you really want to wipe out their entire population, you must salt the earth, so to speak--that's the nature of true razing, making the spot uninhabitable.  This is the one of the few things that makes razing in game a slight tactical choice against keeping the city and dealing with its defense/unrest.  The diplomatic hit never raises above -2, so it's not like that is a deterrent from genociding your enemies (which I do all the time, regardless of how it messes up the land, because if I really want that area later, there's a chance to rejuvenate it with a spell).  Recently, I have become more choosy, keeping the choicest cities and daring the AI to reclaim it; I suggest razing only those cities in areas you don't want (or cannot defend).

Not saying this means it's a feature--on purpose--but just saying how I justify it.  Happy gaming (razing).

I recall there used to be an Earth spell to revive land, but I haven't played up Earth lately enough to see if it still exists.

Revive the Land still exists, but moved from Earth Magic to the Magic Research tree (I believe it's under Rituals or Sorcery, but I could easily be mistaken). I don't recall if it can target city tiles, though, and I don't believe that it's guaranteed to produce a tile you can settle on. Note that Revive the Land is the Kingdom version of the spell; if you're playing an Empire, you want Bloom of Twilight.

While not ideal, you can change this by modding the tile type left behind after razing a city to have certain food, material, and essence values. I don't know what you'd need to change off the top of my head, though asking around in the modding subforum will probably get you a solution fairly quickly.

The existing Razing mechanic is complete rubbish.  A lone bear wanders into a fledgling town and it gets turned to dust just because..

agreed.

I think it would be facinating if instead the bear would conquar the city and it would become its lair, pumping out more bears. You would then need to take your city back.

Yes!! If not exactly that, then something similar or in the same ballpark.

Hmm, I don't know what is going on here, but I can raze a city and all the tiles for the city tile and surrounding tiles can be built upon instantly.

The only thing that happens is the AI tile bonus is removed.   The city I just razed has a tile now with 4/3/2.

So, what is going on here that I don't have a problem and others do?

Call it Wrigley Field.

Yeah, I have been playing a game as The Dead and the cities I raze leave behind fertile tiles. I was able to create population farms by letting the AI resettle the area and then invading and razing again before the city was too well defended. Poor Oracle Ceresa founded three or four new Hagudsts before she finally decided being my minion was less trouble.

Edit: I also support the idea of bear cities.
