Introducing Offworld Trading Company from Mohawk Games

Our friends at Mohawk Games have revealed their first game, Offworld Trading Company, which is being published by Stardock!

An intensely competitive real-time strategy game, Offworld Trading Company requires players to think on their feet and adapt their strategy to the constantly changing player-driven marketplace. No military units take part in this cutthroat corporate warfare, but the stakes are as high as on any battlefield.

Check out this great article posted by Ars Technica, read up on creative director/Mohawk boss Soren Johnson’s blog post introducing the game, and head to the official site to get your pre-order on.

Where may I find screenshots, concept art and/or a teaser trailer?  Seems premature to ask for pre-orders when the website is lacking media of any kind.

The developer blog linked in the initial post mentions that some dev streams of internal games will be starting in a few weeks, I also wish there was a bit more out there at the moment but am rather looking forward to seeing more.

Good luck devs  ^_^

So excited for this one.  Need to start searching for loose change in the couch to try to buy-in early.   ^_^

The artwork in the game is currently still very programmer art. It's a case where the gameplay is way ahead of the visuals.

We put a lot of stress on putting gameplay ahead of everything else in the design process, so - right now - we have a very fun prototype that looks pretty strange because it's a hodgepodge of placeholder assets, first-pass UI, and a board-gamey terrain system. Thus, we are instead going to stream our play sessions to show how the game plays instead of releasing static screenshots that are sure to disappoint/confuse. (Of course, the streams might be pretty confusing too, but you'll at least see how the game progresses, week-by-week.)

Good luck Soren, Mohawk & Stardock.. sounds interesting hope it's a great success.

What do you anticipate the system requirements will be for OWT?

Also, the economic model should be as deep and dynamic as possible. Simplicity may draw more people in, but the hard core folks will be disapointed.

And looking back to the fall of Capitalism II, make sure the economic models are bug free, because if they are broken, the game will crash and burn....

I've been itching for a deep and cohesive economic sim for a long time, and I am really looking forward to this game. Good luck!

I'm excited about the idea, but am hesitant to pony up USD$80 right now. If I wait for another month or two, will I still be able to join in the Founder's Elite Edition?

It should be open for a while, and like always we'll give a heads up on when it ends or changes.

Question re RTS.  How much of the RTS is locked into OTC game.  Will the game be 'pause-able' (and then input orders, etc.) thus allowing people like me who are not quick hand eye coordinated, uber mouse movers to play well? Important to know before I jump in.  Thanks

We have different game speeds, so you can play very slowly in single-player. We'll think about having pausable orders depending on how the prototype goes.

Wow! Offworld Trading Company seems to be the game I've been waiting soooooooo long :D

Mohawk Games, you make me happy! Good luck and keep up the good work.

Kindest regards.

Still checking these forums pretty much daily, can't wait to see some gameplay. Hope development is going well  ^_^

Same Here. Burned out on other games and would like more info on this one.

Nothing too new to report.  We'll have a Founder's Vault going shortly with some NDA access to the prototype.  Best way to describe gameplay right now is MULE on steroids. :)

On that note, will the Elite Edition's second copy also be a prototype one so we can play that with a friend, or will it just be an extra key on release?

The second key will be for the prototype, so you can play with a friend.

Is the dev stream still scheduled to happen at some point?  ^_^

That's been delayed... but we have a different surprise coming soon for people who have pre-ordered.

Hello, I have recently become interested in the game. I was strongly thinking about pre-ordering it but, I would like to see a trailer, or some screenshots to make sure the game I am going to get in quality. I do believe it is going to be pretty good but, I just want to be very clear about the game before I buy 35$ on it! Thank you, Sincerely Puggles1

I would recommend waiting until Early Access begins.

Broadly speaking, it's a really fun game now, full multiplayer but visually it's still very much a work in progress.

I agree, the concept is there and the fun, but it is alittle rough to look at.

Though I'm hoping for alittle more immersion, It still seems alittle too simple, and I'm not sure if it's because of the concepts and lack of direct action. (I am fond of indirect action)

Was half thinking research on transports as an example, going from road to air.
