More '80s Movie Remakes Coming - Can We Please Stop This?

I read a list of more '80s movies being remade, and I just need to make it clear that this needs to stop.  So many of these are great movies that just need to be left alone, and not remade with some mediocre actors.

https://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/yahoo-movies/80s-movie-remakes-214713917.html

Couple of examples:

  • Escape from New York
  • Fletch
  • The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
  • Wargames

Agreed!

They do remakes because there is no creativity or original thinking left in the movie industry, and all they care about is making money. I mean come on now, how many times has Godzilla been remade! Enough already!   8C

They remake them because they make money. If people didn't pay to see the remakes, they would stop making them. Games industry is the same way. Do we really need COD 8 (or whatever) and so on? Well, yes apparently because people keep buying them.

There's really only one way to stop it...by making it unprofitable.

Good luck.  ;P

Almost all of these are dead in development according to the blogspam "article".  There's really no reason to get worked up over this outdated nonsense.  :)

To some of us it seems that the world today is hard pressed to come up with an original idea, which goes right along with memory recall and attention span.  Unfortunately it's been this way for a very, very long time.

Now you would expect that folks would realize this but for two things.........can't remember the first and.......I'm sorry, what were you saying.  :-"

None of those 4 is a literary masterpiece...so it doesn't matter.

There's plenty of others I can think of that'd be a real issue.....

Am I the only person who finds the TV series 'Elementary' an abomination on ALL counts?

Anything that makes its way across the 'pond' [for re-invention] usually ends up in utter disaster.

Fletch was awesome, including it's soundtrack. Wargames had a remake in 2008…

Every movie from the 80s is being remade or remade already.

They are even rebooting the reboot of the 2009 Friday the 13th.

I puked a little in my mouth thinking about it. And after the british Sherlock tv series was such a huge success, they didn't learn from that though.

True!  (sadly).  Most of the really good stories are now in smaller niche markets - cable TV, etc - smaller, more focused audience.  However, also consider that new generations are coming of age.  They don't want to watch an old fuddy movie like their parents watched.  They want their own generation's version!  Oh, and the producers do want to make money.

I watch elementary via the web.  But this less a reflection on my tastes and more a reflection of whats on the TV menu (-ie almost nothing!). I actually like the Brit Sherlock, too bad the actors are tied up in middle earth.  :)

Not a fan of spider man.  They filmed one of the scenes in downtown <my city>, snarled traffic horribly, etc.  But the wonder and amazement is gone from spidey.  Sad....

Yeah it's crap, Sony tried to rip off whatever the producers think is "The Marvel Movie Formula" and failed.

Oh well, I do watch  'Elementary' for 2 reasons.  1.  Its ok and 2.  nothing else is on.

I'm more interested in the big guy's latest outing...

I have full faith that they will do better job this time, versus the Matthew Broderick version!

Just (finally) watched Pacific Rim on DVD.  It was better than I was expecting.

Yeah, I agree, was surprised.

Pacific rim was pretty good for a mech movie.

I would have liked to see them utilize more weaponry over the hand to hand combat, as typically it seemed they needed to win the battle using weapons anyways. But all in all a decent flik..
